Practicum Experience Reflection

The practicum experience at ACN Physicians Group FL under the guidance of Dr. Vladimir Santos has been instrumental in strengthening my clinical and leadership skills as a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) student. Over the course of 56 hours, I engaged in direct patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) principles. This experience has reinforced my ability to critically analyze healthcare systems and apply strategic interventions to enhance patient outcomes.

One of the most valuable aspects of this practicum was developing leadership skills in a clinical setting. I actively participated in interdisciplinary team meetings, where I contributed to treatment planning and patient case discussions. These opportunities allowed me to apply Bloom’s Taxonomy principles, particularly at the application and synthesis levels, as I translated theoretical knowledge into real-world clinical decisions. Additionally, I collaborated with healthcare professionals to evaluate the efficacy of treatment protocols, aligning with AACN Essential II: Organizational and Systems Leadership.

Another key takeaway from this experience was the examination of healthcare resource utilization. Throughout my rotations, I assessed how human, technological, and financial resources influence patient care delivery. A significant portion of my work involved analyzing patient records, evaluating cost-effective treatment approaches, and exploring the impact of healthcare policies on practice outcomes. These experiences have deepened my understanding of healthcare economics and the importance of resource management in clinical settings.

Furthermore, my engagement in evidence-based practice was pivotal in improving healthcare delivery. I conducted literature reviews and applied research findings to clinical decision-making, which aligns with AACN Essential I: Scientific Underpinnings for Practice. By integrating EBP frameworks into patient management, I was able to recommend evidence-based interventions that improved patient care while maintaining safety and efficacy.

This practicum has also highlighted the challenges and barriers within the healthcare system, such as staff shortages, time constraints, and ethical dilemmas. However, these obstacles provided an opportunity to develop problem-solving strategies and reinforce the importance of advocacy and leadership in nursing.

In conclusion, the 56 hours completed during this practicum have significantly contributed to my growth as a DNP student and future nurse leader. This experience has allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge in practice, refine my decision-making skills, and enhance my ability to lead healthcare initiatives. Moving forward, I will continue to build upon these competencies to drive positive social change and improve health outcomes in clinical practice.
