Chapter 3 Discussion - Immunity
Innate or nonspecific Immunity
The following figures and video may be helpful when you are reading the textbook.
The innate or nonspecific immune response is a general response to ward off the initial entry of the foreign agents. The first line of defense is generally in the form of physical or chemical barriers that stop the invasion before it penetrates the body wall. The body wall extends over the surface of the entire body, and through the digestive tract. The second line of defense is known as inflammation, which can be generalized as bringing in the calvary, or bringing the soldiers to the battle.
