The best way to protect your business from cyber security incidents is to be proactive. This can be done in many ways. The idea of set it and forget is not the case when it comes to cyber security. There are constant changes in the landscape that keep security professionals on their toes. It is also important for everyone in the organization to remember that security isn’t just the job of the IT department, either. Some incentives or ways to engage employees to be aware is to find motivation for employees. This could be raising awareness in how to better protect themselves and their families. Finding that emotional interest can help spark them at work as well. Another way is to create a fun competition for employees to be a part of can help to increase skills and create excitement (Howarth, 2019). Other ways to improve awareness is public recognition such as newsletters, internal marketing, and recognition from management. It is also important to focus on attainable improvements in security rather than making drastic changes and expecting things to improve. Making slow and incremental changes can keep everyone engaged in the process as well.

I do think that credit monitoring services and letting customers know about the breach as quickly as possible are great ways of responding to an incident. It is also important to get the breach resolved and the security issues fixed as quickly as possible. It is also important to test the system and update the plan frequently when there are changes. This will help to ensure success and keep employees engaged.
