I have contacted Ashley Bailey who is the lead teacher through PreK-partners located at Nelson Elementary. PreK-partners is set up through the Impact learning center which is located in Scottsboro Alabama. IMPACT Learning Center was awarded a grant from Office of School Readiness to establish the first state funded Pre K Partners classroom for Jackson County in 2009. The Pre K Partners program was established to offer a high-quality preschool learning experience to four-year-olds in Jackson County.
A. The center does offer a handbook at the start of the year. Before school starts, they have a parent night where they go over key notes and the children meet their teachers. In the handbook, there is a website listed called Internet Resources for Learning Disabilities. This website has a verity of other site parents can use. These are just a few of what the site has to offer:
· www.aacap.org/publications/factsfam/83.htm - Services in School for Children with Special Needs: What Parents Need to Know discusses identifying and qualifying children with special needs for special education.
· www.peatc.org - Parent Advocacy Training Center publishes a newsletter on special needs to which members can subscribe. Site contains numerous parent resources.
· www.do2learn.com/ - games, songs, communication cards, print resources and information for special needs.
· www.zacbrowser.com - Zone for Autistic Children.
· www.greatschools.org/special-education.topic?content=1541 - Great schools primarily serves parents whose kids (K-12) have learning difficulties, including: Specific learning disabilities (LD); Attention problems including AD/HD; and kids who struggle with similar problems but who don't qualify for special education.
The teacher at this center uses website like Funbrain that has arcade games and lesson video. Children can also practice their skills in attention grabbing games, and the instructions are illustrated to help children who have a hard time with reading. Story Online is a great resource for children with learning disabilities like dyslexia. Starfall is a website that teach phonics, has fun lesson activates and stories.
