Hello Adejoke,

You have presented some very interesting information in your essay. I enjoyed reading your thoughts and observations.

However, according to your teacher’s instructions, you should focus your essay on how Lhari’s experience is similar or dissimilar to your personal experiences in America. You contrasted Indian and American culture. That is not what your teacher assigned. When you came to America did you have similar experiences to Lhari or were your experiences when you first arrived different than his? The answer to these questions will be your thesis statement.

Please see this outline for writing a comparison or contrast paper. However, instead of writing about two stories or articles, you will write about you and Lhari.

After you have made your revisions, you may still receive support from the virtual on-campus tutors; however, at this time, Upswing tutors are only able to review one draft of an assignment. Additionally, on-campus tutors are now available as well.

In any case, I hope that you will have a successful and rewarding semester, and we look forward to reading your next assignment. Keep up the strong start!

[Always give the full title and the author of the work you are analyzing.] The story by Lhari is a touching one which talks about the way he left India and had to go to different continents in the search for greener pastures. [Avoid cliches. Why was he in America?] He talks of how he was influenced to be the one who he is at the moment by the different cultures that he interacted with. He left India in the year 1964 and [Use a comma with a coordinating conjunction if the clauses before and after the conjunction are complete sentences.] he had a certificate in commerce as well as the equivalent [equivalent of what?] and just ten dollars with him. It is funny that [Do not give your opinion when summarizing.] he sailed on the Italian cargo vessel so that he could be able to get to his destination and make the most out of his destination. According to him he passed across many seas as well as regions before he could get to the Destination. The final destination for him in the first part of his journey was England although he ended up settling in North America. [Your thesis statement comparing or contrasting your experience with Lhari should be here.]

He attended his lectures at L.S.E as well as worked at the university library to be able to manage his expenses at that time. He explains the way of life as very hard and full of hardships and the way he had to strain in terms of resources so as to be able to survive effectively in London. He shared a room that was not of good condition but he had to persevere so as to manage the expenses and fulfill his part of responsibilities. It was in the year 1969 that he was lucky to have a job in the US in the identified processing department regarding a library at MIT. The starting salary was one that was highly generous enough for supporting his wife as well as himself and he was honored to be hired by the globe’s famous university. The life was different from the one he was used to at his home place but he adjusted. He adjusted to the foods as well as the lifestyle of the YMCA including reading books. He passes the Massachusetts drive and remembers the life he had with his wife and tells his son the story.

Culture is considered to be the part of life which influences another individual. As individuals think about their lives, they usually tend to possess ideas or even they question themselves regarding who they are as an individual and who they are in a specific role such as a member of the family. When looking at the Indian as well as the American culture it is vital to note that they are two different kinds of cultures. I have been born in an Indian culture as well as learnt about India all my life but all this changed when I came to America to pursue my studies. The American culture has highly influenced my Culture by a large extent. Unlike in India where we think of others, I currently think about myself because I adjusted to the US culture where individuals are usually highly driven by the pursuits which usually benefit themselves. They are usually expected to seek personal level of recognition and even in boosting their own social as well as financial status. I have grown up in a collective society but right now I live and am directed by an individualistic culture since I already adopted to living on such a culture (Vanderkar, 2021).

It is important to note that there are different cultures in the world including the American culture which has a high level impact on the universe in different aspects of Culture. The American culture emphasizes on the freedom to pursue happiness. This is because they usually tend to permit as well as effectively promote self gratification. This is unlike the Indian as well as the South Korean and Russia culture which is associated with encouraging restraint in the times of temptation. These kind of values usually seem to be linked to the particular set of parenting goals (Moberg et al., 2021). Americans position as the dominant superpower in the world has also caused the famous global American cultural influence. America was always perceived as being a cultural backwater until it started exportation of some of its homegrown kind of culture abroad via films as well as music. Nonetheless, there is the English language influence by the American culture. A constant stream regarding the American TV shows as well as films, songs and even websites have spread American words along with expressions. Most individuals are learning the American slang via songs as well as films and even TV. American English as well as Culture usually offers a common channel regarding communication for the individuals globally (Williamson, 2021).
