Title: Information “Defense attorneys have presented some innovative defenses to criminal charges. The original attorney for Colin Ferguson, the Long Island Railroad mass killer, suggested that his actions were the result of "Black Rage." One defense to a murder trial became known as the "Twinkie Defense" when a defendant offered as explanation for his violent rampage that he was on a sugar high from the night before when he had stayed up all night studying and had consumed a six-pack of Pepsi and a box of Twinkies. Recently several cases have relied on the defense of automatism or sleepwalking. One man drove 14 miles to his mother-in-law's house and stabbed her five times, allegedly in his sleep!
