Within telehealth there is a huge emphasis on healthcare, without question. Therefore, AHIMA has put forth the idea that a formalized organization wide information governance (IG) program is the answer to the interoperability and technology issues in today’s evolving health care environment. Health care organizations should designate a member of senior leadership as accountable for its information. A supporting committee or council should be formed with key stakeholders to ensure that governance activities are agreed upon and driven down through the organization. Ultimately, the governing body should oversee all activities around information creation, use, and disposition. Because the position is to be run by senior management they need the support of the other senior leaders to help assess existing policies, procedures and related to information governance. Furthermore they need relevant stakeholders to support them in their efforts to capture, storage and use of health-care-related information. Furthermore, they need the support of upper and lower management to be willing to work with them in their efforts and to provide any needed technical or operational support with the use of employees.
