Article one
In my research, I will use the article by Jakubczyk et al. (2020) to provide the causes and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The article will provide more insights into the available options for treating IBD. The article advocate for the use of a probiotic in treating the condition. The article's authors say that probiotics are essential since they can enhance interaction between immune systems and the gut microbiota.
Additionally, I will use the article to discuss various probiotic mechanisms such as the regulation of immune responses, enhancement of the intestinal barrier functions and modulations of the gut microbiota compositions. I will use the article to compare randomized controlled trials and various clinical studies to provide evidenced based practice. The article will enable me to discuss interventions and methodologies of different outcomes of each study. I will discuss gaps and limitations in the existing research for further consideration in future studies.
Article two
I will use the article by Mumolo et al. (2018) to explain the role of Fecal Calprotectin and why biomarker has a high diagnostic value for the diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Crohn’s disease (CD). It is an important molecule in the pathogenesis of IBD as it can be used as a blood test for the early diagnosis of CD and IBD. In this study, I will examine its clinical usefulness as a biomarker for CD and IBD by analyzing its relationship with clinical variables such as age, sex and disease activity index (DAI). However, the results show that fecal calprotectin was significantly associated with age and DAI, even after adjusting for their effects on other clinical variables. I will also use the article to explain how meta-analysis revealed significant heterogeneity between studies; a random effects model was used instead of a fixed effects model due to heterogeneity. The approach showed a significant association between fecal calprotectin levels.
Article three
I will use the article by Taft et al. (2019) to explain the relationship between the assessments of post-traumatic stress in a US cohort of inflammatory bowel disease patients. For instance, the article indicates that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was prevalent among patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, the rate of PTSD was not statistically different between IBD and healthy controls. The results suggest that IBD may be associated with a higher risk of developing PTSD, but this does not imply that IBD causes PTSD.
I will explain how PTSD is associated with psychological and physical challenges. The article will enable me to explain the clinical gap that PTSD impact and the prevalence of IBD. It will enable me to explain the best quantitative approach to evaluate IBD using self-report measures. I will explain the role of healthcare in supporting assessments of PTSD and identifying medical interventions for IBD.
