Topic 2: My Theory of Classroom Management
What are the necessary components of a classroom management system?
The necessary components of a classroom management system have to be effective
implemented within a classroom in order to foster an environment in which students are learning
and maximizing their full potential. Each of the seven components is very essential for this
process to work. According to Charles and Cole, “Although different each component must be
implemented and monitored to ensure that the overall effectiveness of the plan is met” (Charles
& Cole, 2019). The seven components that are necessary for a classroom management system
are as follows: Classroom Rules, Classroom Design, Classroom Disciple, Classroom
Organization, Classroom Scheduling, Classroom Instructional Techniques, and Communication.
With the implementation of all of these components ensures that students are learning and
growing; it also allow teachers to keep students engaged and focused on the learning process.
Introducing students to a framework that positively addresses the redirection of negative
behaviors sets the perimeters for a classroom management system to work. Familiarity and
consistently of what is expected of students should always be a top priority. Students should be
introduced, taught and always given constant reminders of these expectations. Teachers should
always remain vigilant in making sure that is never an opportunity for students to abandon their
expectations. In order to guarantee that a classroom management system will continue to
promote a safe and productive learning environment, teachers have to grow as professionals
leading by example for all of their students. Teachers have to exhibit and model the behaviors
that are expected of their students.

What is the purpose of each component?
Each of the components of a classroom management system is very important to the
effectiveness of a well-managed classroom. Classroom rules are implemented in order for
teachers to have structure and organization within the learning environment. These rules allow
students to know what is expected of them as well as giving them the guidelines for positive
behaviors. The use of classroom rules is essential for both the students and the teachers to ensure
that the overall growth of the students is achieved. Classroom design is the creation of a
classroom (space) that is welcoming and comfortable for all students. Classroom design is
important to the overall productivity of the students. An effective classroom design can eliminate
the potential for negative behaviors and classroom disruptions from students. Classroom
discipline teaches the students that there are consequences for displaying negative behaviors,
while simultaneously, also teaching students that there are rewards for exhibiting positive
behaviors. Discipline also teaches fairness among students in which students who display
negative behaviors receive negative consequences and students who display positive behaviors
receive positive rewards. Classroom organization ensures that all students are aware of what the
expectations of the classroom are and what they are expected to do at all times. Organization also
equips the teacher with the ability to present effective lessons that meet the overall standards and
goals for the students. Classroom scheduling allows for teachers to keep their classrooms in
order by staying on time and on task. Classroom scheduling goes hand and hand with class
organization because when teachers are well organized they are able to maintain and effective
schedule. If teacher schedule appropriately they are more likely to make sure that day to day
transitions run as smoothly as possible. Classroom techniques allow for teachers to be able to
deliver information as they see fit that will ensure that students are introduced to and retain

knowledge that is important to their educational growth. Instructional techniques should be
tailored to specific grade levels, subject areas, and students. Communication is important on its
own; however, it is very vital to all of the other components of the classroom management
system. In implementing each of the other components verbal and non-nonverbal
communications allow teachers to effectively vocalized the classroom rules, goals, and
expectations. Communication also allows for students to gain an understanding of these rules,
goals, and expectations, and also give consent of their understanding.
