VITAMIN-MINERAL ASSIGNMENT

Assignment Overview.

This assignment involves receiving a vitamin and a mineral from the list of available micro-nutrients. Contact the instructor with your top three choices for the vitamin you would like to review AND the top three choices for the mineral you would like to review. The instructor reserves the right to choose which you will review and tries to provide you with one of your choices but in case of multiple students requesting the same nutrients, may offer a substitute choice. The assignment will be a written assignment. Here are the details:

1. Prepare an outline for your chosen vitamin AND mineral. You may due this as an outline or paper. Each nutrient will be one-two pages. Please hit the major points as outlined below. Please fill in pertinent information.

2. Present information on the following:

a. Function (major and minor functions of the nutrient)

b. RDA (by age and sex if noted).

c. Storage in the body. If not stored, indicate that as well.

d. Food sources (plant and animal). Please indicate if the food source is a great, good or fair source.

e. Toxicity symptoms (if there is no known toxicity for the nutrient, please include that information).

f. Deficiency symptoms (if there are no known deficiency symptoms for the nutrient, please include that information).

g. Supplements (requires a visit to a vitamin or health food store or a tour of a web site

i. Kinds of supplements available

ii. Are supplements in pure or mixed form?

iii. % RDA the supplement provides

iv. cost of supplements

v. Would you recommend supplementation with this nutrient?
