1. Virtual communication tool
Zoom is a free online video conferencing that allows secure video conference calls from any authorized devices to take place. Upon being featured as one of the participants, the participant is served with a notification message with a login link that the participant is expected to click and access the online video conferencing ( https://zoom.us/). The calls are marked with a clear HD audio and video call that allows other unique features like annotations and screen sharing proactive effecting the purpose of the tool.
2. Zoom accessing directions
Accessing the tool is easy; the administrator downloads the app and creates a group where he/she shares the specific phone numbers that should access the meeting. The system has a direct way of sending login details to the identified numbers and it is using this login details that each participants gets to access the meeting. However, there is a specific timeline for the meeting. The meeting link becomes active once the identified meeting time arrives and the link automatically deactivates once the meeting time lapses. Upon login, the participant can see and hear what is being said by others and can also make contributions.
3. How the tool works
The tool works by displaying all the faces and images of the participants that have accessed the meeting. The person speaking can either type and the message is displayed on the screen or speaks, and others can hear. One person must speak at a time to allow coordination. The administrator requires granting all participants equal attention so as to determine how speaking will be done as others listen.
4. Tool value to group productivity and success to the classroom assessment
Zoom is a free online communication tool that adds value to the team’s productivity and success. This is because class members do not have to meet physically but they can meet in their convenient locations and share important ideas about classwork. It is a tool that can be used irrespective of the kind of device that members might have and this makes all class members equal. It can also accommodate as many as 500 people at a go making it highly reliable.
5. Icebreaker activity
For this activity, the zoom participants would be required to take part in the icebreaking activity for the purpose of creating a positive environment through which members can easily relate and engage each other.
Activity- unique name, three images, and two truths and one lie.
In this activity, every member is required to come up with a unique name that he/she would be referred to by other members of the team. After official introduction of the official names, the members to states that “for this class, I would appreciate if members would refer to me using the following name” and the member to share the selected preferred name. The member to also attach a funny meaning or reason; for the selected unique name such that no single member would struggle remembering the unique name.
Secondly, each member to upload at least three different personal photos for other members to see and get to understand the member much better. To make the exercise fun, each photo should be from a specific age for instance when a child, a teen, and a current one and some great memorable moments of each photo to be shared. To sum it up; each member to share with other members’ three different personal statements; two of which are true and one lie. The member to proceed and ask other team members to distinguish the lie from the truths and the member who gets it correct to get applauded for the correct guessing.
