Viking Holiday Classic

SCOPE STATEMENT

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The Viking Holiday Classic will be a high school basketball tournament that will be held in the Middlebrooks Athletic Center on the campus of First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, GA. This holiday classic will showcase eight boys and eight girls varsity basketball teams as they compete over two days on December 19th and 20th, 2022. The budget for the entire event is not to exceed $8,000 which is to be funded by tournament sponsors.

PRODUCT SCOPE DESCRIPTION

A holiday basketball classic with sixteen total teams (eight boys and eight girls). Schools that will attend include: First Presbyterian Day School, Mount de Sales Academy, Tattnall Square Academy, Stratford Academy, Hebron Christian Academy, Athens Academy, Eagles Landing Christian Academy, and Walnut Grove High School. Teams will compete against two pre-determined opponents over two days.

JUSTIFICATION

First Presbyterian Day School strives for excellence in everything it does. We will coordinate and host a first-class holiday basketball classic while promoting community engagement and raising awareness of the excellent staff, facilities, and programs at First Presbyterian Day School. The profits raised from the tournament will be put directly into the basketball program.

5. Research and Block Hotel Rooms for Visiting Teams: July 2022

6. Opponent Assignments and Game Times Assigned: July 2022

7. Officials Contacted and Secured: August 2022

8. Logistics Meeting and Assignments Given: October 2022

9. Final Information Packet Emailed to all Teams and Officials: November 2022

10. 2022 Viking Holiday Classic: December 19th and 20th, 2022.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Sanctioned Event: This event must be submitted and approved by the Georgia High School Athletic Association (GHSA).

2. Officials: All games must be officiated by GHSA officials.

3. Parking: Parking availability for all cars and busses.

4. Locker Rooms: Locker rooms available for all teams to change before and after the game and to rest during halftime.

5. Tickets: Admission and ticket purchase required to watch games.

6. Concession Stand: Hot food, candy, and cold drinks available for purchase for all spectators.

7. Hospitality Room: Food and beverages available in a private room for coaches and officials who are participating in the classic.

8. Janitorial Services: all facility cleaning responsibilities before, during, and after the classic.

9. Game Security: All games must have an official Game Manager, Athletic Trainer, and at least one security personnel.

10. Live Stream and Media: Internet and Equipment required for filming and streaming.

11. Game Clock and Bookkeeper: All games must have an official Clock-Keeper and Bookkeeper who report directly to the officials during each game.

12. Hotel Accommodations: Recommendations for places to stay for teams traveling in from out of town.

13. Covid Restrictions: Any restrictions dictated by the First Presbyterian Day School medical advisory committee, as well as the GHSA medical advisory committee.

LIMITS AND EXCLUSIONS

1. Eight games per day is the limit for games that can be played based on time restrictions.

2. All games must have a three-person official crew.

3. Internet function and/or poor spectator service could limit viewing possibilities.

4. Based on covid restrictions, there may be a limit on maximum attendance.

5. Locker Room availability is limited to 30 minutes before the start, through 30 minutes after the basketball game is over.

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA

The Viking Holiday Classic will be official when the GHSA grants it to be a sanctioned basketball event. The final step will be receiving and confirming all signed contracts from Teams and Officials.

SCOPE CREEP

Areas of possible scope creep include:

1. Request of additional teams that will not fit within the allotted 2-day timeframe.

2. COVID Team exposure could possibly cause a competing team to forfeit.

3. Inclement weather could cause the tournament to be postponed or delayed.

4. GHSA Executives do not approve the sanctioned event.
