In 2011 the U.S. Supreme Court gave First Amendment protection to video games. But is there such a thing as going too far in the virtual world? Read the following articles about "Grand Theft Auto V", which made more than $800 million on its release date alone back in 2013, and "Active Shooter," which sparked outrage by allowing gamers to act out a school shooting in 2018. Then respond to some of the criticism that has been aimed at the games' content. Address the questions below, citing specific details in the articles and information about the game's content.

IMPORTANT: It is perfectly fine to defend the video game content, but you must cite evidence to back up your claims. Please do not use the argument that similar content is seen in other types of media such as films and music. In this class, we are looking at each type of media individually and then looking at the overall effects of media on individuals and cultures. Please address the following topics, citing specific examples from the games and articles posted:

1. How do you feel about the sexual, violent, and aggressive content mentioned in the GTA article? What about the language, which has racist and sexist undertones? Where do you draw the line in terms of what is "appropriate" content in video games? Be sure to cite specific examples from the article.

2. What type of messages do you think are encoded in this game? How do you think those messages are decoded by those who play it?

3. How do you feel about Steam's decision to pull the "Active Shooter" game?   See more here: http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2018/06/13/russian-developer-defends-controversial-active-shooter-video-game.html

4. Most agree that listening to a particular type of music can change a listener's mood. Do you think extensive playing of games like these can also influence a person's behavior, language, aggression, etc.? Why or why not?

4. Is the current video game rating system strong enough to ensure that games like GTA V are only played by "mature" audiences? Should anything else be done in terms of regulating video game content or who can purchase/play certain games?

Your response should be at least 300 words
