Fieldwork Activity: Protesting Participant Observation

Task: Observe the protesting of social issues, and police brutality. Describe the event using participant observation as your research method.

Value: 50 points

Due: ______________________ _

Purpose and Guidelines: Once again your objective is to act as a sociologist conducting participant observation of a protest. The form of data collection will provide much insight into the broader community and abroad. As a result of the pandemic your field observation will take place via videos that I have provided. However, if doing the last two weeks you have participated of your own accord in protesting, you may provide a written report of observation as an alternative, but you will still be required to take field notes.

Here are some guidelines:

1. You will watch the videos that I have provided below, each video should be less than 5 minutes in length. You may also use any footage or reflection of your recent participation in a protest.

2. Look at the footage or reflect on the experiences around and notice all the details and interactions of the people protesting. Complete the attached fieldwork chart. Attach the charts to your report.

3. Write the report 500 words in length.
