Video essay for COVID-19

Assignment Overview:

You will apply the concepts from this section to create a video essay on your personal experience with COVID-19.  Using primary sources that you have access to (social media, personal correspondence, public news media), construct a story of the COVID19 pandemic from your perspective.  Compare and contrast COVID-19 with the other pandemics presented in this section.  Evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, bias and context of your sources of information on COVID-19.  

Incorporate your primary sources through the inclusion of images, screenshots, video clips and voice over.  Your essay should have a clear point of view.  You may construct your video essay using the voice narration tools of PowerPoint, or the video editing and recording capability of your cellphone, iMovie, MovieMaker, or other editing software.  While this is not a video production techniques class the quality of your video, legibility of images, and intelligibility of audio do need to be clear enough to be easily understood. 

The experience of the COVID-19 pandemic is not universal.  The experience, emotional response, observations, and analysis of the events and of society are personal.  Use these as the core elements of this video essay.  Your essay should clarify how you made meaning out of the pandemic and corresponding social and economic changes.  Include reflections and things learned from the section readings on other epidemics, pandemics and plagues.  

Your video essay should be 2 -5  minutes in length.

Assignment Requirements:

· Video includes primary sources; sources are evaluated for bias, strengths, and weaknesses.

· Compare historical analysis presented in this section with primary sources; comparison highlights larger societal impact, progress and context of events.  

· Video has a clear message and point of view.

Submission Requirements:

Please upload your video to YouTube and submit the link to this dropbox.  Please make sure your YouTube video is set to unlisted or public.  Your YouTube video will then be shared with classmates for critique.
