Assignment: Create a three-minute to five-minute video. We will view these together on our last day of class. (This is the suggested length; you may also choose to produce a longer video; maximum six minutes. See me to propose alternatives.)

The topic is yours to choose: possibilities include 1) a Ted Talk video version of your presentation; 2) a video or vlog related to or about your personal statement and/or leadership philosophy; 3) an "About Me" video for your life portfolio or to post on social media or ....  4) another topic you are passionate about pursuing. What are you most excited to write, produce, film, direct, and star in?? Create a video that you will want to watch for years to come.

Begin by envisioning your film. See Storyboard Assignment for creating your video plan; further instructions will be given in class. Think about audience and purpose. Sketch images and create audio captions on the storyboard. Consider variables such as lighting; content; set; camera angle and distance; tone; mood; pace; volume; voice; music; acting; costumes; props. (Be aware of citations and check permissions on images and audio.)

Experiment with filming and editing, and go back and adjust your storyboards as your refine plans. Get ideas and software support from online tutorials (see modules) and from your visits to the Open Learning Lab. Make arrangements for any collaborations with classmates, friends, and/or family members. You may decide to film with your phone, or borrow UWB camera and lighting equipment.

Submit a shareable link to youtube, vimeo, google drive, or another platform where your three- to six-minute video can be viewed. (Most videos will be larger than the max size for Canvas.)

Here are instructions on submitting: https://wiki.harvard.edu/confluence/display/canvas/Adding+Videos (Links to an external site.)  If you need further youtube guidance, run a Google search to find easy instructions for opening a youtube account and uploading your video.

Be aware that you can choose to make your Youtube account public, unlisted, or private. If you designate it as "unlisted," you can share the link but it will not show up in a search. If it is "private," you can share the link with only one other email address. Here is a link to an article on privacy settings:

The rubric will equally weight 1) content (is the message informative, engaging, original, convincing, compelling, provocative, inspirational...?) and 2)the effectiveness and creativity of delivery. (The videography does not have to be fancy or high-tech, but it should be well done. Your presentation portion will benefit from eye contact, clear audio, and effective visuals. Remember, the most important visual aid is YOU.)
