THE VICE LORDS

An African American gang

Creator of the Vice Lords Willie Lloyd

Willie Lloyd was born in Chicago on the Westside. He did not have parental or community guidance, through out his life lead him to crime. He joined the Unknown Vice Lords, a local gang, in the late 1960s. when he was 12 years old, Lloyd was considered a leader at the age of 14. At the age of 14, he was known for recruiting more than 1,000 followers to join his gang.

Willie Lloyd was leader of one of Chicago's oldest gang members called the Almighty Vice Lord Nation. He was sent to prison several times for gang-related crimes. In 2002, after being released from jail. He tried to stop gang violence and promote peace. Willie Lloyd was then shot six times, paralyzing him.

History

The Vice Lord nation has grown since the 1960’s and are known to be very powerful. A lot of people think they sold drugs and make a lot of money. The real cause of the nation is not about drugs, money, and violence.

The behavior is from the gang membership. The Almighty Nations does not allow violence and criminal activity.

It was a period of time in history where the community and country had faith in the Vice Lords and even offered assistances to help people in their youth stay positive and teach them healthier ways to live a better life.

The Vice Lords were positive for the North Lawndale community and had a very positive impact on the youth during the 1960s.

During the 1960’s was not a lot of opportunity for blacks and the youth. The youth realized that they did not have many options to make a difference in their lives.

THE CURRENT TRENDS

Vice Lords are active today controlling the North Lawndale communities.

Several members are getting arrested and indicted by federal grand jury.

Many of the original gang members have been killed or have given up ties to the Vice Lords due to the change of morality since the gang originated.

Even high-ranking members are not safe against prison sentences due to large amount of competition to become a high-ranking member.

As the second largest street gang in Chicago under the People Nation alliance.

the Vice Lords represent Chicago and the state of Illinois.

The gang has an estimated 20,000 members throughout the state, both in prison and on the streets.

The Vice Lords have expanded into neighboring states to advance the gang’s criminal activity, and with a nationwide membership of nearly 35,000 members and associates.

The Vice Lords are predominately African-American gang,

numerous gang sets, own leadership and rank structure.

Recent attempts to unify the various sets under one umbrella organization, becoming more sophisticated and organized.
