Value stream mapping is a visual improvement technique that provides a flow of manufacturing and production process and also conveys information on materials flow through the process. The technique employs a flow diagram providing in detail all manufacturing process steps to allow planning (Kaiser, Urnauer & Metternich, 2019). The method is beneficial in most areas of an organization, including the human resource department, manufacturing/ production department and the management.

The manufacturing department uses the stated processes to identify mistakes and wastes within the process in an accurate manner. The management uses the mapping technique as reference information for future improvement and also promotes teamwork among staff during improvement program, which is a group exercise. Human resource department uses the value stream mapping to determine the work description of employees to avoid waste due to over-hiring (Khatib & Pachorkar, 2015). Employees also critique available problems within the process.

The leadership team focuses on implementing the value stream mapping because it simplifies the management role in making accurate and sound decisions based on precise predictions (Emiliani & Stec, 2014). The technique provides a job description of employees based on the processes promoting accountability.
