Values

It has been my experience in life, that no matter how much I have in common with another person, if I do not share my values with that person, over time we will have conflicts and misunderstandings. You can share the same personality type and same level of education, but if your core values are different, you will not always understand each other. Sometimes these relationships can disintegrate years later, but differing values almost always cause problems. Sometimes relationships disintegrate because values change.
It is important to understand what your true values are in order to see how that affects your relationship with others. Only when you understand yourself can you truly understand another person. Then we need to get outside ourselves and look at the values of those who work for us and work around us. We also need to be honest about our own values.
Probably the most important issue that you will ponder this semester is your values. For on those values, you should build and design your life. It is about making choices every day that will help you to be all that you can be. I have heard this concept expressed this way, “what do you want to do with your dash?” On everyone grave stone, they include the year the person was born and the year they died divided by a dash. The dash represents your life and the way you spent the moments of life. What are you going to do with the time and with the gifts you have? In my personal opinion, it is about seeking God’s direction in every step of your life. That’s just me. You should not waste your life supporting values which are not your own.

Whatever values are important to you, it is time that you make certain your life, your job, even your leisure activities help you support your values. Life passes quickly and if we are not careful we will spend it doing things that are not important to us. Make sure there is a connection between what you value most and how you live your life. But remember this is not just about a course; it is about your life, who you are, and how you will live. I hope you enjoy the final assignment.
