US-Canada Border Security Cooperation Strong

The US-Canada border is nearly three times longer than the US-Mexico border.

In contrast to the US Southwest Border, the Northern Border lacks a security fence and its

terrain in most locations is easier to cross—such as fields and waterways.

As of 2015, the Northern Border was staffed by about 2,000 US Customs and Border

Protection personnel compared to more than 18,000 along the Southwest Border.

As with the US-Mexico Border, it employs a mixture of seen and unseen security measures,

including detection sensors, counter-smuggling technologies and weather data analytics to bolster Port of Entry physical security.

Canada announced in November that it will accept 25,000 Syrian refugees by March 2016, giving priority to

those considered a lower security risk.

Class Question: With the information provided above. Do you feel the Northern border is more or less likely a threat in regards to transportation?
