*DO NOT SUMMARIZE!

1. The goal of this assignment is for you to demonstrate your understanding of the theories, terms, and concepts discussed in class (via lectures, text, and videos). As you develop your paper, be sure to show your ability to apply the language and concepts from the text.

2. Write your paper in a standard essay/thesis format with an introductory paragraph that states the main idea of the essay; a body that develops and discusses the points you have introduced; and a brief conclusion which summarizes your ideas. Please review the syllabus for additional information.

3. Your paper should be 2000-2500 words long (you will begin losing points if your paper is too short, like less than 1900 words). Your essay should be thesis-driven, in a Time New Roman font at 12 points, typed, and double-spaced. You should have one-inch margins top and bottom, right and left of your paper. No title/cover page (though you may use a cover page if you prefer). Place your name, course, date, and professor in the top-left corner of the first page. Center the title without bold print, quotation marks, or italics (quotation marks and italics should only be used for the title of other works that appear in your title).

4. You must carefully and correctly document all of your sources using APA format. Your papers will be submitted using Canvas (No physical papers required); Only 10% plagiarism will be accepted. Papers that exceed this amount will receive a "0" for the entire assignment.

5. References must be typed on a separate page titled REFERENCES. In addition, references must be used at all times, and cited work notated properly. The following websites are helpful links to help you properly cite your work: OWL Purdue (APA)

6. (Links to an external site.) 7. and http://library.flcc.edu/APA_FLCC.pdf.

1. THE TEXTBOOK IS A REFERENCE; AS ARE THE VIDEOS YOU ARE WATCHING and any other outside sources (journal articles, datasets, etc.).

2. CITE THESE ACCORDINGLY (i.e. a minimum of four references are required).

8. Papers are due at 11:59 pm of the due date. NO LATE PAPERS. 9. You will lose some points if you submit in a paper that does not adhere to

these guidelines (so don’t do it).

Grammar and punctuation will also be evaluated. You're in college, therefore it is expected you are to produce work appropriate for college students.

PROJECT: The research essay will analyze ONE (1) approved documentary (see list below), utilizing research (i.e., journal articles) and outside sources (i.e., film, textbook, etc.). The essay may focus on a scene/section/subject/ etc., or the entire piece's context.

Students may locate a film of interest on any streaming site to which you have access. Students are encouraged to pick a topic that genuinely interests them. The following films are approved for this course. Either complete films or trailers will be listed below. Do not summarize.

● Use the textbook, journal articles, discussions, and/or other outside resources to support your argument.

● Be sure to cite according to APA guidelines ● All work is due by 11:59 pm of the due date. Late work will not be accepted. ● ONLY Submit a PDF or Word version of your assignment to CANVAS. No

other format will be accepted/graded. ● No more than 10% plagiarism is allowed. ● The essay requires research and analysis. Therefore, if the essay covers an

argument that can be easily googled, the assignment will receive a '0' mark. This is an analysis, not a report. Please see the Learning Center and Tutors for additional assistance.

● No more than 10% plagiarism is allowed. ● Do not write a synopsis of the film (this will result in a '0' mark) ● Students who do not complete the RESEARCH ESSAY will incur a 10%

deduction to their final/overall course grade.

Do not email the professor your paper. No exceptions.

Keep to the original assignment guidelines; this is an overview, but I had made some exceptions for this group because there was only one research paper (ignore any due dates mentioned as well).
