1) PEST, 2) cross-cultural charts and team analysis, 3) a description of the group project (not to exceed one page), 4) 4-6 pages about how doing business in this culture will affect your role, and 5) a list of sources.

Details:  First your group writes a one-page group summary of your project - it's purpose, it's product, where it will be. You all copy this page and add it to 5 more pages.  The rest of the paper is  5 good, double spaced pages that will describe how cultural understanding will be important in your ROLE

As a group, you will choose the company where you will work. Also, decide on a product, service or brand (PSB) which you can sell locally in Los Angeles. 

Then divide into roles in order to run your “virtual” company. Some suggested roles are: CEO, Vice-President in charge of operations, Human Resource Supervisor, Cultural Advisor, Director of Marketing, Information Technology Manager, Vice-President of Customer Service. You will need a role to focus on for your culture paper.

The paper will be a minimum of 6 pages, typed, double-spaced, with a list of sources (not included in the 6 pages). You will need to submit this to Canvas by Feb. 29.

In the introduction (about 1-1/2 pages, on which you can collaborate on as a team) you will give an overview of the PEST analysis (Political, Economic, Social and Technological factors) that will govern conditions in your country that you have all observed and researched together as the advance team. You can find many examples of PEST analyses on the Internet.

The body of the paper (which you research on your own) will be focused on how you will perform the duties of your role BASED ON THE CULTURAL PRIORITIES OF THE CULTURE OF YOUR GROUP. I cannot emphasize this enough: you MUST make the paper about culture and not just a PEST analysis or a description of the role of a manager. You are utilizing the concepts of this class and applying them to a “virtual” company and its set up.

After you have all completed these papers, you can share them with the members of your group so that everyone on the team understands a full picture of the cultural priorities of doing business in your group’s culture. This will give your group a complete picture of the country’s business practices. You will need all this information for the next simulation (negotiation).

 

 

 

The rubric for Culture Paper will be as follows (200 pts. total):

1)         Completeness and comprehensiveness

            of the overall view of your country’s culture,

            with special emphasis on doing business in

            that culture                                                                   75 pts

 

2)         How well your paper utilized the

            concepts and definitions from class by integrating

             them into the explanations of your country’s culture       55 pts

 

3)         Your explanation of how cultural priorities effect the        70 points

            decision-making process of your ROLE in ways

            that emphasize good business practice
