Detailed Submission Details

The aim of this assignment is to enable you to conduct a paraphrase and summary of a set text in

addition to practising the skill of correct referencing of sources.

Worth: 10% of your overall grade.

Requirements

 Typed in an electronic format (Word or PDF document)

 Uploaded to the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

 Document’s name should be your student number, name and the Assignment Name.

 Cover Page (including Course Name, Your Name and Student ID Number, Title of your work,

Tutor’s Name, Date)

Instructions

For Assignment 2b you are required to:

1. read the passage found in the PDF document entitled Text to Paraphrase and Summarise and write two separate paragraphs in the same document. One should be the paraphrased text and the other the summary.

2. add appropriate references (both in-text citation and a Reference List). The reference List

must be on a separate page.

3. Watch the video relating to Quoting, Paraphrasing and Summarising, included in Week 2 material.

Marking criteria

Element Weight %

 Paraphrasing Skills: illustrates your ability to change the words, phrasing and sentence

structure of the original passage while retaining and fully communicating the original

meaning.

(40%)

 Summarizing Skills: Clear and brief summary of the text given. It includes only the main

ideas of the original text in a new form (paraphrased). Shorter than the original text.

(40%)

 Citations and References: Proper acknowledgement of the sources used in terms of

citation and reference list.

(10%)

 Writing: Style, expression and grammar: Flexibility with expressions and use of

appropriate writing style. Use of correct punctuation, no misspellings and typing errors.

(5%)

 General Layout (presentation, font size etc.): Continuous flow and consistency in the

format of your writing (Times New Roman, 12 size fonts and 1,5 line spacing)
