Social Problems
Throughout the semester, we have covered numerous topics about sociology, social structure, social institutions and social problems. Numerous concepts and topics have been presented to help us understand problems/challenges such as Health Disparities (E.g. in maternal/Child Health, COVID-19 treatments), Alcohol/Drug epidemic, Poverty, Inequalities of Race, Class, Gender, Sexuality, etc., etc., Create a 5-8 minute voice or video thread in D2L discussing how the problem you selected has impacted everyday life. Use concepts from this course and sociology in general, to explain what is happening. You can record yourself talking, develop a PowerPoint, make a photovoice presentation, or anything else that comes to mind. Think of this as a short informational video that could be uploaded to YouTube or a podcast. The goal for this exercise is to have you: 1) demonstrate understanding of what you have learned in the course by applying sociological concepts or theories 2) demonstrate knowledge of how to communicate a problem using technology, and 3) demonstrate ability to use critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Please use the platform that you are most comfortable with to record the thread. Some options are listed below.
· Zoom or other recording platforms: Can record and upload to D2L. Zoom is useful if you would like to record your screen or a PowerPoint.
· Laptop/Phone: Your phone or laptop might have a function for you to record voice and/or video. Feel free to use them as well.
· YouTube has a function that will allow you to record or upload a video to your account.
*A lot of times, I cannot hear any audio when students make PowerPoints. Be sure that the audio on the PowerPoint works before you turn it in for grading. The way to do this is to send the presentation to me beforehand so I can see if it works properly.
