STARVATION & HOMELESSNESS

In our place we call home there are children, adults, and families suffering to access food.

There are so many families that are facing starvation and sadly there are more in today's time

than there were ever. Starvation has been an issue since longer than anyone could remember.

There are a handful of causes for people that are experiencing starvation today all in which we

can do something about. With that being said some of the reasons evolving around starvation

include people being born into a family with no money, a poor country, natural disasters,

inequality, and unsafe sanitation. This issue is heartbreaking but we need to face reality and stop

ignoring the problem. Many people don’t know about this world wide issue, and we can all

further educate society about it. People being on the streets also makes starvation at higher rates.

Homes are too expensive, or sometimes it could be drugs or like starvation, some people are

brought into the world in homeless environments.

Ask yourself, What is Starvation, and what can we do to help? Well starvation is the

suffering or death caused by hunger. When you aren’t getting the proper amount of calories it can

cause dehydration so imagine not eating and being dehydrated all the time. You're going to

eventually pass away. People not having money or being homeless is a part of starvation. If they

don’t have a home to cook or a place to access money, then of course it will lead to starvation. In

an article it stated, “Over 37.7 million people are suffering in poverty today”. With this percent

of the population going without money they won’t be able to buy food. As we know you have no

money then you can’t pay for or provide food for your family. This is a big ongoing problem that

needs to be talked about and with the help of the community could be fixed and/or the

percentage of people that are experiencing starvation will drop.

As I have stated before, people that are experiencing starvation and hunger are not able to

afford food in their countries or can’t don’t make enough money to live off of. In an article it

stated, “At least 160 ethnic Rohingya India's Andaman Islands and up to 20 people may have

died of starvation, activist groups say”. This shows that people from foreign countries need help

with getting food that they’re able to afford. 20 people were taken from the world due to

starvation, and there’s been more since. Out of the 20 people that died of starvation 16 of them

were kids, no one wants to see innocent children suffering because they don’t have anything to

eat. If you and your child were somewhere suffering you’d want help, so we should do good

deeds and help them out. There are approximately 828 people all together in the world that are

currently experiencing starvation since 2022, which is 29.9% of the world that is out there

starving. A father also talked about how he felt about starvation in the article and it became

personal and felt how every parent should “As a father of four, I know how it feels to want the

best for your family. I’ve been lucky enough to be able to give my children the best start to life”.

The father of four understands that he wouldn’t want his children or family to be going through

starvation. With that being said families that are able to give anything whether it be small or

large at least give something.

A lot of children are born into families that are in poverty or homeless with money and

able to feed their children. So it’s not the child or the parents fault all of the time because

sometimes the parent is unfit or doesn't have the means to take care of a child. When a child is

born into poverty or a homeless lifestyle they won’t be able to afford food because their parents

can’t. Children have no choice where or when they are born and the situation that they are

brought up in.

A lot of countries, specifically the urban poor, approximately 1.2 billion people, are highly

vulnerable to rising food and energy prices. There are a couple of ways you can tell by the child

or adult's body when they're in need of food or food deprived. When the child/adult has when

they feel or look like they cant move and is weak, when they get ill and take too long to recover

this is because they aren’t getting enough nutrients in their system to bounce back from the

illness. When someone has a reduced appetite, and this is because after not eating for so long

their mind doesn’t want food anymore, or nothing sounds good to eat anymore because they got

used to not eating. Feeling tired all the time and this is due to them not having enough nutrients

and vitamins to give them energy. Being able to see their bones, of course this is because they

haven’t eaten in a long time. Feeling cold all the time this is because they are thin and weak and

as you should know need food. Even if a wood takes too long to heal then you're not eating

enough food or nutrients so if you or someone you know is experiencing any of these they are

likely to be in starvation. So many children die a year from starvation purposes. About 10,000

children die from hunger and related causes to starvation.

The next issue to be discussed is homelessness. The reason I would connect these two is

because of course homelessness is a cause of starvation. They fall into the same category. The

society is overpopulated with homeless people. Homeless people aren’t able to afford food

because they have no income. We could do more to get people on the streets such as make more

shelters available. When they have access to living space they will have access to food as well.

People need living spaces even if it’s not the best, something is better than nothing. Being in

poverty is the verge of being homeless but being homeless is worse. You are already on the

Last name pg#

streets. When it’s cold, hot, or storming people are not able to go in a house and get warm or cool

down. We wouldn’t want our own family in that living condition so we need to do more to help

others. People become homeless everyday and there are lots of reasons why. The rst reason

which is a common one is drugs. People suer everyday from addiction but with the right path and

helping them get on their feet again they’ll be able to nd a job or an apartment to help them in the

future. Some people were abandoned because they do drugs and families don’t want to deal with

that, but really all they need is the right guidance and a support system. Therapy changing their

living habits can be another step in the right direction. Once they are put on the streets they’ll

have more access to do drugs. Drugs will eventually lead to death but if you stop that person

from going on the streets, they can avoid that. Putting them on the streets isn’t teaching them a

lesson or going to make them stop their ways, it’s just going to give them more leeway to do it.

So in that way we can stop them and tell them they’ll be homeless and you’ll take care of them

so they won’t be on the streets. When people are homeless they have no way to keep up their

hygiene. They urinate, defecate, and throw up on themselves because they don’t have access to

clean up. Women still have their menstruation cycles. They aren’t able to get the right products

and need to help them. They have no source of income to buy food. Lack of affordable housing

is a big reason as to why homeless people are in that position. Just like how people are in poverty

because they aren’t getting paid enough. In an article it stated that, “Many of those who

experience homelessness are unable to work due to a disability”. This shows that people need

more ways to make money because if not they will end up on the streets. Some people are just

raised or brought up into a poor family that eventually leads them to become homeless. But that

is also not the person's fault. If they are in homeless shelters while they make money then they

need to continue that outside once they’re on their feet. Being homeless puts people at a high risk

of depression, victimization, poor health, depression, and etc. We can make a difference just by

showing someone where a homeless shelter is and get warm food and a warm place to lay.

Although it may not be the best it’s better than outside on the concrete. Sometimes people are

criminals and aren’t able to get jobs because of the crime committed. In other cases a person may

hurt themself and need to leave the job for an amount of time. That person should be allowed to

get paid even though they aren’t working because they are not at fault for the reason for not

being able to work. If they are given a good amount of days to heal and they still aren't showing

up then that is more under stable and a valid reason to be red. Other than that reason they should

not be asked to leave if they haven’t got a reasonable time to heal from an injury. Even being

discriminated against and judged when they haven’t yet given you the opportunity to show that

you are t for that job. These are all reasons why people are becoming homeless.

People not being equal toward each other can also be a cause of hunger. People may not see

the connection but I will break it down for you. There are a couple of billion people and of the

billions 345 million people who are severely hungry in the world right now 2023, nearly 60% are

women and girls. The reason is because they are treated unequally. Each cause of unequal

treatment reinforces the others, trapping women in a cycle of disadvantage, poverty and hunger.

Women don’t get the same treatment and pay, so they are more likely
