Values/Health Perception

How do you define the term ‘healthy’?

“being able to still work and being able to do things are enjoyable

Do you go to the doctor and if so how often?

Everyone goes about once a year but the grandmother goes more often d/t dx of TIIDM c/ neuropathy, HTN and cataracts

Do you follow the recommendations that the doctor has given?

They try to follow the doctors order but prefer more holistic treatments with herbs and cost effective methods.

What are your spiritual practices?

How do you define the term ‘nutrition’?

The ability to eat 3 full meals and not be hungry afterwards.

What does breakfast, lunch and dinner look like?

B- Eggs with chorizo

L- Carne Asada tacos with rice and beans or last nights dinner

D- Meat dish with rice, beans and veggies.

Sleep/Rest

How much sleep do you get?

Parents and grandmother 5 to 7 hours per night

Daughter 10 to 12 hours

Do you have difficulty sleeping, if so what remedies have you tried?

The parents have difficulty sleeping and will often take valerian root, chamomile teas or watch TV till tired.

The daughter is usually tired and will sleep as soon as her head hits the pillow

When you wake, are you feeling rested?

The family is not refreshed after sleeping.

Do you have difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or both?

The parents complain of both, the daughter has no complaints.

Elimination

How often do you urinate and defecate per day?

The parents say 1x/day

The grandmother didn’t wish to answer

The daughter goes 2x/day

Is there any difficulty doing either?

There were no complaints from the family

Activity/Exercise

Do you exercise?

The family stated that they don’t exercise because their jobs included exercise. The mother and daughter clean homes together for several hours a day averaging anywhere from 3 to 5 hours daily. The father states that he walks around all the time working at the cell phone facility. The grandmother states that she walks around the backyard and when she cleans the family home.

What is your favorite activity that involves moving your body?

The parents and grandmother prefer walking around the neighborhood while the daughter likes to dance when she can 2 to 3 times per week.

Family denies with the exception of the grandmother that has cataracts

What do you think about yourself?

The parents reply with being happy to be in the United States compared to Mexico. They feel that they are lucky and happy to have and raise a family here.

The daughter is wanting to go to college at Arizona State University next year but thinks that she won’t get in due to her lack of GPA. This makes her feel badly about doing so poorly in school.

How is your general demeanor about the future?

The parents report that they are hopeful and glad as long as they stay in the U.S.

The daughter feels generally upset about possibly not going to ASU next year.

The parents say that if they are stressed they talk to each other
