I hope the following statements will benefit you as you conduct the Professional Development Needs Assessment at your school:

1.  Ask permission of your colleagues to conduct walk-throughs.  Assure them that you are NOT evaluating them and that names will NOT be used.

2.  3-4 walk-throughs should be sufficient.  If you have more time to conduct more, that will be OK too.

3.  You will not observe every indicator on the Needs Assessment.

4.  The use of "N" is somewhat harsh for this assignment.  Consider making another column for N.O. (not observed).

5.  Elementary teachers can focus on their grade level or multiple grade levels.

6.  Middle school teachers can focus on teams or grades or subjects or multiple grades or multiple subjects.

7.  High school teachers can focus on departments or multiple subjects.

8.  You will only submit a summary, not the checklists.

9.  You do not need to include the checklist in your reference list.

10. You may or may not have citations and/or references.  If you paraphrase or quote information from the textbook about professional development, then you will need a citation and a reference.
