Week 8 Discussion - Interviewing For Your First Admin Job

Interviewing for a new position is always tough, but interviewing with a panel will be very stressful.  There will be many other candidates there with more experience, but it is our job as the candidate to show off our skills and beliefs to get the position.  I have been on a panel interviewing teachers, and I always feel for the candidate because I know sometimes nerves gets in the way of giving your best, most confident answers.

I like the idea of being specific on what position you are applying for and changing that for each position you apply.  This makes your resume tailored to each specific job but can also prepare you to be specific in those interviews.  In an interview, and on your resume you are trying to sell yourself.  Many people will come in with similar resumes so it is important to try and sell your self and put yourself apart from the other candidates.  I would highlight the different leadership roles that I have had but also highlight my different experiences.  I believe to be a good leader you must have experience in many areas.  I have taught Special Education, 4thgrade, 5thgrade, MTSS intervention, and now 2ndgrade.  I would want to focus on each of these positions because it makes me a versatile candidate.
