Skill Enhancement Self-Observation Project:

Snazzy Presentation Subtitle Firstname Lastname

UNIV 4350 - Spring 2023 Date of Presentation

Introduction

- On this slide you will introduce yourself to the audience. - Describe your chosen major. - Describe your field. - List and explain the four most important skills related to this profession (or

your life goals, other aspirations, etc.). In this order: - Skill A - Skill B - Skill C - Skill D

- Of these four skills, explain why you selected skill D for this skill enhancement self-observation project. Discuss your strengths and weaknesses in this area.

Research

- Justify your selection by discussing the academic literature related to your topic.

- Remember, there is a minimum of five sources - three must be academic, one must be professional in nature (such as a TED Talk), and the fifth is up to you.

- Explicitly relate this literature to the skill you hope to develop by posing a research question or questions.

- This assignment requires that you address only one research question, but you may decide to address more than one.

Study Design

- Explain your approach and research methodology. How will you spend two weeks working day-by-day to enhance your skill?

- Do so in broad strokes. You can give the specifics in the slides following this one. - Explain how you will know whether these activities promote skill

enhancement. What will count as evidence? - Discuss how you will log your progress.

- What observations are you recording? - How will you know if you are successful?

- Tell the audience what your expected findings are. - Remember, these are *expected* findings. You cannot make an exact prediction. - You can definite the overall outcome you expect in a pretty general way. - You may find later on that the results of your self-observation differ from your expected

outcome. That’s just science, though!

Findings: Days 1-10

On one (or two) slides, summarize the following:

- Explain what you intended to do each day. - Connect those activities to the skill you are enhancing. How do these

activities enhance that skill? Convince the audience that this matters. - Explain what actually happened. What did you notice overall?

- I expect you to log your progress and development. - After completing each daily activity take stock of what you did. How did it go?

- If you repeat activities on consecutive days, explain what they were and why - At the same time, it would be nice to see some variety in your activities.

- But do what makes sense for you!

Findings

- Sum up your findings. - Overall, what did you discover during the skill enhancement activity? - Can you display any trending information in charts or graphs? - Did you find anything that surprised you?

Conclusions and Limitations

- The findings are the raw facts of the self-observation. In this section, you interpret the findings to draw conclusions about the overall experience.

- What did you learn? - What were the limitations of your approach? - What would you do differently? - How will you carry this experience forward?
