6. Communications Management

Channels of Communication

In project management, different channels can be used in communication. Formal channels include letters and emails. These channels are used to pass information that should be documented for references whenever there is a need. For instance, if the project manager needs additional finances, he will write an official letter and address it to the procurement or finance department. This communication should be made as soon as there is a need. Typically, official communication happens weekly or twice monthly. Communication can also be achieved through other channels such as face-to-face, social media, phone calls, and text messages, among others. Such channels are primarily used in informal communication and happen several times in one day. In team communication, the most effective channels include face-to-face and video conferencing. This ensures real-time communication that has instant feedback.

7.3 Control Systems

Configuration Control

Configuration control involves managing project deliverables and other documents throughout the life of the project. The key stakeholders will be copied on the control document: the project manager, project coordinator, head of the IT department, quality control team, and procurement manager.
