| HAND-ARM VIBRATION EXPOSURE CALCULATOR | ||||||
| Instructions and Definitions | ||||||
| Instructions | ||||||
| Insert your input values in the white areas, in one or more of the six Tool or Process Name rows. | ||||||
| (More than one row is required where the individual is exposed to vibration from more than one tool or process within the same day.) | ||||||
| After entering the data, press the Enter key, or move the cursor to another cell. | ||||||
| The outputs will appear in the yellow areas. (Yellow cells will remain blank if valid input data have not been entered.) | ||||||
| To clear the calculator of all values, click on the Reset button. (The buttons will only work if macros are enabled in Excel.) | ||||||
| To resize the calculator to fit your screen click on the Zoom to Fit button. | ||||||
| Definitions: Inputs | ||||||
| The Vibration magnitude is the frequency-weighted r.m.s. acceleration value in m/s2 for each tool or process. | ||||||
| The Exposure duration is the total daily vibration contact time or "trigger time" for each tool or process. | ||||||
| It may be expressed in any combinations of hours and/or minutes but must not exceed 24 hours (entries will turn red if the total time exceeds 24hours). | ||||||
| Definitions: Outputs | ||||||
| Exposure points per hour is the rate at which exposure will rise at the specificed vibration magnitude. | ||||||
| (Exposure points is a simple alternative to the A(8) value for describing and managing exposures in the workplace. | ||||||
| The exposure action value (EAV) is equivalent to 100 points and the exposure limit value (ELV) is equivalent to 400 points.) | ||||||
| Time to reach EAV is the time required to reach the exposure action value (EAV) of 2.5 m/s2 A(8). | ||||||
| Time to reach ELV is the time required to reach the exposure limit value (ELV) of 5 m/s2 A(8). | ||||||
| (Exposure points per hour, time to reach EAV and the time to reach ELV are calculated from the vibration magnitude for each tool or process.) | ||||||
| Partial exposure is the vibration exposure, expressed in m/s2 A(8) and in exposure points, for each tool or process. | ||||||
| It is calculated from the vibration magnitude and the exposure duration. | ||||||
| Total exposure, also in m/s2 A(8) and in exposure points, is calculated from all the partial exposures. | ||||||
| Note: A partial or total exposure will not be calculated if the corresponding exposure duration exceeds 24 hours. | ||||||
| Warning indicators | ||||||
| When a value for daily vibration exposure is shown, a warning indicator will be displayed below the daily exposure value: | ||||||
| "WARNING: Exposure above 5m/s²A(8) ELV (400 points)" | ||||||
| The calculated exposure value is above the exposure limit value | ||||||
| "WARNING: Exposure potentially above 5m/s²A(8) ELV (400 points)" | ||||||
| The calculated exposure value is just below the exposure limit value, | ||||||
| however, accounting for typical uncertainies for expsoure estimates means that | ||||||
| the actual exposure has the potential to be above the exposure limit value | ||||||
| "WARNING: Exposure at or above 2.5m/s²A(8) EAV (100 points)" | ||||||
| The calculated exposure value is at or above the exposure action value | ||||||
| "WARNING: Exposure potentially above 2.5m/s²A(8) EAV (100 points)" | ||||||
| The calculated exposure value is just below the exposue action value, | ||||||
| however, accounting for typical uncertainies for expsoure estimates means that | ||||||
| the actual exposure has the potential to be at or above the exposure action value | ||||||
| "Exposure likely to be below 2.5m/s²A(8) EAV (100 points)" | ||||||
| The calculated exposure value is below the exposure action value | ||||||
| and the actual exposure is likely to be below the exposure action value |
