American Society Cancer

American Society Cancer (ASC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating cancer through medical and volunteer operation in the United States. The activities that ASC engages includes providing grants and organizing awareness program to advertise and inform the society about cancer. The gifts offered are used to fund researchers, serving callers in the National Cancer Information Centre as well as discovering the links between cancer and smoke. More than two million people volunteer with the American Society cancer in more than 3400 offices. ASC also funds scientist dedicated to discovering life-saving treatments of cancer and develop preventive measures. The primary aspects that the organization concern with include prevention, treatment and detection and research on the disease. American Society Cancer works with the local government authorities to provide cancer services as well inform the society about cancer.

The nonprofit organization shares many services with the local government. Health is among the priorities of any government hence it is intimately involved in any activities on health. ASC informs the society about cancer and creates awareness on the necessity of having a cancer-free society (Davidson et al., 2015). Also, the organization partners with companies and other organizations to fund for cancers related activities such as research on best practices in cancer issues. Besides, the organization provides the local government with the human power to engage in delivering different cancer-related activities. ASC is helped the society to reduce cancer deaths considerably in the United States. In enhancing effective communication with external and internal audiences, the organization should apply the following strategies. Firstly, it should raise awareness and also equip employees with information and skills. There should include the formation of a liaison committee to ensure all stakeholders are involved in the program. Lastly, there should be a clear communication plan in and out of the organization.

American Society Cancer important objective is to save lives in the United States. In achieving this objective, the organization has volunteers working together with the community to create awareness and treat cancer. ASC gets dedicated to having a cancer-free society through prevention and treatment of disease. The volunteer initiative is a supplementary to local government relationship with the organization purpose and objective (Crawford et al., 2015). The organization also complements the role of government in the health sector. More so, the organization gets a lot of support in relation with cancer. The national government in collaboration with the local government offers to fund for different programs. Also, the local government fund cancer training in partnership with NCCCP and George Washington Cancer Institution (Hamilton et al., 2015). The funding is used in the implementation of comprehensive cancer control and also supports communication strategies to the local and ensures cancer programs success and leverage increase in resources supporting the program.

I would mobilize more resources from the local governments to support comprehensive cancer control. With the support of local government, I would advocate for more fundraising from different stakeholders. Through this people will be willing to offer total assistance and contribute positively to cancer control. Besides, I would support more campaigns to create awareness about cancer. The community should have enough information and knowledge about cancer to help eliminate cases of cancer and save lives. I would use the internet to communicate and pass the message about cancer to the community. Online cancer training would help the organization in training people about cancer and build a big team of service providers. Lastly, I would upload more information about cancer online access for people to read. Online coaching and awareness programs would help communicate about cancer.

However, American Society Cancer faces a lot of challenges which affects service delivery of the nonprofit organization. Firstly, the government delays in releasing of grants and financial support which affects effectiveness and efficiency in service delivery (Collins et al., 2016). When the organization gets funded late, it would be not competent in providing services and supporting employees in their duties. Secondly, their organization experiences complex legal requirement and procedures in developing and implementing cancer programs. There is a challenge in the complex conditions by the local government as well as the state government on reports from the survey. The organization is required to file complex information from many studies and programs (Willons et al., 2015). The challenges mentioned in the earlier relationship between the organization and the local governments. There is wastage of time, the high cost of operation and also reduced morale for the organization. In managing these issues, I would hire qualified and dedicated administrative staff to maintain the relationship with local government.

American Society Cancer faces financial challenges contributed by high tax for cancer drugs and cancer treatment. The cost of cancer drugs and cancer operation machine is high for a nonprofit organization to afford. Besides, the procedures for developing medications due to more time spent on reviewing drugs (Fojo et al., 2014). Also, there are more economic regulations required by the government. The government needs complex processes during application and implementation of the cancer programs. Lastly, different countries are advocating cut for health care spending. It affects the mission of achieving a cancer-free society. The local government and the government of the state should work closely to ensure global economic and political factors do not influence the nonprofit organization.

In the project, I have learned that there is a need for all stakeholders to ensure that they receive support from all parties. Cancer control requires the involvement of many stakeholders for better results. The community too has a responsibility to check on the activities they engage. In my career, I would create awareness and advocate for community involvement. There is a need for the use of technology to teach the community about cancer and the need to have a cancer-free society. The city should get informed about its crucial role in controlling and preventing cancer. More nonprofit should join in fighting cancer and creating public awareness.
