RESEARCH PAPER QUESTIONS 2

Question 1

According to Lewis (2015), depression is one of the causes of disability amongst a large population. One key type of depression is postpartum depression that highly impacts mothers and compromises their relationship with their children. Research shows that mothers with six months after delivering are the ones that are affected most among the population. Therefore, there is a need to identify the challenges associated with this form of depression as one means of preventing it since it has proven to be among the most prevalent issues in society. Guintivano et al. (2018) notes that a lack of adequate management of depression can pose more adverse effects including loss of lives since individuals suffering from it lack interest in things they previously thought to be critical to their lives.

Patel (2017) holds that depression is caused by a lack of interest in activities that were previously believed to be important. Hence, this condition causes sleep disturbance, poor motor coordination, and prolonged sadness, which affects one’s productivity and consequently lead to more adverse impacts on the victim’s lives. One significant way of resolving depression such as the postpartum is evaluating oneself based on the usual coordination of activities and the likely changes that may seem to be established in one’s behavior (Patel, 2017). Some essential techniques that can be used to address depression include seeking medication, electroconvulsive therapy, psychotherapy, and interpersonal therapy. Avoiding unnecessary stress and negative behavior changes can also be used as a preventive measure for depression.

Question 2

The sources identified for this research are explorative even though some have narrowed down their research to arguments. Also, many sources concerning the challenges facing management of women with postpartum depression, which is the topic of this study, are based on other reviews and research findings over around two decades implying that the conclusion from their results is based on an explorative study. Therefore, the direction that this research will take will involve exploration considering that many other unidentified causes of postpartum depression may be the current causes of this issue.

Furthermore, different research showed that depression has the capability of causing disability. Patel (2017) provides that an individual suffering from depression is unable to cope appropriately with the activities of daily living. Hence, this study argues that mothers, during the postpartum period, are at high risk of postpartum depression. Guintivano et al. (2018) also argues that this form of depression makes mothers lack a good relationship with their children as a result of the inability to cope with the overall behavior. However, other research focuses on the problems associated with this form of depression while not exploring the possible causes and the possible means of preventing them. For instance, Okun et al. (2018) provides that individuals with a problem such as postpartum mothers can be identified, receive useful interventions, and have comparisons and expected outcomes kept into consideration. Therefore, this research will be based on exploration since it is crucial to identify the possible causes of postpartum depression for one to identify the potential challenges posed by this issue.

Question 4

A conclusion is one key element in research for various reasons. Firstly, this part in any study summarizes the findings upon evaluating the credibility. For instance, in this study, various authors might have assessed postpartum depression, which is the keyword in the topic line, differently, but lacking overall credibility resulting from evaluating the research process followed by those sources. Many researchers try to develop a list of keywords that can be used to obtain more information about the topic, but those keywords may differ from one researcher to another. Hence, concluding one's research implies that credibility has been evaluated and could be used for further research.

Secondly, the conclusion revisits the thesis statement, but after making a critical evaluation based on the entirety of the topic. For example, the thesis statement in this study would involve how postpartum depression challenges the relationship between mothers who are victims of this depression and their children. However, the topic would be titled as; Challenges Facing the Management of Women with Postpartum Depression. A conclusion revisits the thesis statement upon evaluation of various research findings and linking it to the research topic. Thus, one can easily use it to review the overall results of research without necessarily revisiting the whole analysis.

Question 5

Introduction

Research shows that many consequences of postpartum depression include a decrease in the bonding of the mother and the child, an increase in child mortality and morbidity rates and a decline in the health of the child due to the unavailability of the mother. This form of depression is one threat to a significant population in society, and there is a need to address it using as many approaches possible. Also, depression increases the chances of one having disability since the victims usually lack coordination of their usual activities and difficulty in coping with their normal behaviors. Mothers are at high risk of postpartum depression during the postpartum period. Mothers affected by postpartum depression are not capable of appropriately tending to the needs of their children during this period. Therefore, it is vital to identify the challenges that the clinicians and other medical personnel go through as they treat the mothers during this period. Postpartum depression makes it difficult for the mother to have a good relationship with their child. It has a high prevalence rate especially among women at the postpartum period. To correctly manage postpartum depression, it is essential to identify the various challenges that accompany it during the post-partum period.

Comment on APA formatting

APA formatting follows several guidelines, which differentiates it with others. For instance, its reference page is supposed to be on a different page and the order of aspects such as authors’ names, publication year, source title and their sub-titles are arranged respectively for every reference used. On the other hand, the in-text citations for APA comprise an authors’ surname and the year of publication. One challenge experienced for this formatting style is when to use the ‘et al.' and when it is not necessary especially when more than three authors are involved in a given source.
