Purpose Statement:

This guideline establishes a listing of engine company operations and responsibilities for the Washington Fire Department.

Procedure:

Engine companies of the Washington Fire Department are broken down into three specific areas: fire suppression, tactical rescue, and emergency medical services. As a rule, first arriving engine companies will establish the Incident Command System on arrival of any incident that the unit feels warrants command for safe operations. The following is a list of the primary responsibilities of engine companies.

1. Fire Suppression a. Deploying fire attack hose lines b. Water supply: hydrant lines and drafting operations or tender operations c. Back-up hose lines d. Search and rescue e. Sprinkler system support f. Support master stream operations or fireboat operations g. Rapid intervention team functions h. Investigation of odors and alarms i. Any other direction from company and/or fire chief

2. MVA, Hazardous Materials, and Tactical Rescue

a. Respond to all accidents, hazardous materials responses, or tactical rescues b. ALS (Advanced Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) patient care c. Protection hose line and stabilization at vehicle accidents d. Gross decontamination at hazardous material incidents e. Manpower at tactical rescue incidents f. Any other direction from officers or chief officers

3. Emergency Medical Services

a. Non-transport ALS and/or BLS patient care b. Any other direction from officers or chief officers
