Unit 6 Summary

It is clear from unit 6 that a good compensation and benefits plan is important for any business. It has been depicted that this plan is made for the benefit of the employee. The compensation and benefit plan, and safety, wellness and health plan ensure that the employee is covered by the company. Some programs promote safety in the working environment and many other practices carried out to guarantee employees of their safety. Giving employees compensation and benefits and providing safety in the working environment is a cost burden to the company. Therefore, the business managers should always ensure that they plan while hiring new employees.

Compensation and benefits refer to the rewards an employee gets from their company. There are both tangible and intangible types of compensation and benefit. For instance, intangible compensations include the work-life, being recognized in the company, and promotions. Employees can also get financial compensations directly from the company. Financial compensations can be in terms of commissions, salary, and wages, basically any compensation or benefit from the company in monetary form.

Benefits are used to act as a supplement to the compensations given. Some of the benefits can be being paid time off, Housing, retirement benefits, vacation, medical, life, and car insurance. In the United States, many companies give benefits depending on the rank an employee hold in the company. That is the highly ranked employees and executives get better benefits. The main aim of these benefits is to improve the economic security and safety of the staff. Worker retention is also improved due to the benefits and compensations. All these have a positive impact on the organization at large.

Employer and employee relationship should be maintained and strengthened. Both employees and employers have different expectations. The employees have a role in ensuring that they create an environment that is conducive for new employees. Workplace challenges should always be resolved and prevented. Rules and regulations are important in any company since they promote equity, the voice of everyone in the workplace, and efficiency. Teamwork should always be embraced because it brings up cooperation and good results.

Organizational culture should be built around the health, safety, and wellness of the employees. Business managers should note that the safety and health of the employees are paramount. An unsafe workplace does not only affect the employees but can also result in fines from the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). Some regulations have been set up by the OSHA movement to safeguard the employees. These regulations regard the working places, evacuation strategies, exposure to noise, hazardous chemicals, personal protective gear, sanitation, first aid requirements, fire equipment, and electrical equipment.

Employees should be protected from health hazards in the workplace. Stress in the workplace is common. Employers should always give a flexible time for their employees to avoid stress. Some of the employees who cannot tolerate environmental and foreign chemicals should be granted reasonable workplace accommodation. Smoking bans also contribute to protecting workers' health. Workplace violence and bullying should be prevented by providing safety education, securing the working place with alarm systems, cameras, and establishing a policy for violence prevention.
