Directions for WW1 Final Paper

Although this a more lengthy writing exercise, it can be constructed using the same format as the 5-paragraph essay. For each topic question below, provide a thesis statement and 3 supporting statements. Include a n introductory paragraph and a transition/concluding paragraph for each topic. Using this format, papers should have about 15 paragraphs total, which translates to about 4-5 pages. Discuss the following aspects of World War I:

• Why di d World War I occur? (5 paragraphs)

o Choose 3 reasons to discuss

• What was the war itself /war-time society like? (5 paragraphs)

o Choose 3 to discuss -- i.e. strategies used, battles, weapons, tactics, social effects, etc.

• What were the most significant effects of the war? (5 paragraphs)

o Choose 3 effects to discuss Assigned source material:

• Chapter 12 (pp. 287-end)

• Chapter 13 (through p. 304)

• Fourteen Points

• Treat y of Versailles

• PowerPoint images

Guidelines:

•Be sure a to use direct and paraphrased examples from all the assigned sources within your paper.

• Do not consult online or outside sources; use only the assigned sources.

• Cite sources in the same format as for previous assignments.

•Follow the guidelines of the grading rubric and the Writing Tips. The

grading rubric will be used to assess this assignment

Essay

· You have learned a lot of history in this class – we started with the earliest human societies and have ended in the 20 th century.  That is a lot of material to cover!  The goal of this essay question is to have you reflect on what you have learned, and evaluate what you consider to be the most pivotal or important times in history.

· For this essay, respond to the topic question below.  Formulate a thesis statement and be sure to use detailed, specific supporting examples from the textbook, primary sources, and course assignments.  Length – 1-2 pages.  25 points

Topic Question

· In your view, in which time periods/events did humanity see the most significant developments?  How?  Why?  Be sure that you discuss at least 3 time periods/events in your answer.  Again, use specific information and detail to support your answers.
