Overview: Part 4 is the fourth segment of your Research Project. This activity will allow you to explore, apply, and demonstrate your learning about survey methodology in criminal justice research. The use of surveys is one of the most common approaches in research to collect data that informs the point of your research with a defined population or sample from which to collect your data. Conducting surveys generally involves the use of questionnaires, interviews, and self-reports. Your finished product will present a mini-survey, and the process and considerations followed to support of your research topic.

Instructions: For this assignment, you will prepare a mini-survey instrument to support your criminal research project. Your submission will be in the form of a paper detailing the following:

• Write a statement of your research project topic and the rational and the focus (point) of

your research. Identify the representation population that will comprise your sample

and explain how you determined your survey population.

• An explanation of each of the following survey types and potential for use in your

research project: questionnaires, interviews, self-reports. Cite two (2) possible

advantages and disadvantages of each as related to your research project topic.

o Include two (2) web site resources that provide examples of questions or items

related to your research topic that can be included in your survey and inform.

You may use the sources identified in Chapter 9 of the text or other resources

from the web.

• Your submission will include a sample of six (6) survey questions, including three (3)

open-ended questions and three (3) closed-ended questions. Include a brief summary

for each question that explains the appropriateness of the question based on the unit

materials and your topic.

• Identify the process you will follow for recording and analyzing your data.
