Time Management

Introduction

Time management is an essential daily practice that increases in value as people age since the more people grow; the more commitments develop, and require effective scheduling to accomplish the roles. Therefore, time management results in the achievement of success since one will plan and execute their duties based on a pre-established plan, which eventually results in meeting individual goals and objectives (Forsyth, 2016). Nonetheless, time management fails to apply to all based on the age of a person, as evident from children lacking knowledge on the value of time, while adults have limited time to accomplish their duties. Hence, time management applies to different situations and people differently based on what should be accomplished, several activities, the significance of planning and preparation, as well as anticipated success. For example, youth will be worried about finishing the course assignments, attending a lecture, and earning better grades while an adult will worry about balancing providing for the family, and development of career. Equally, time management occurs in short-term and long-term approaches, whereby short-term refers to the instantly planned and executed activities while long-term approach entails an extensive activity that takes longer duration. As a result, time management comes with one main controversy that is time is money implying if time is managed well, one accomplishes their activities and gets rewarded by becoming more achievements. Specifically, when one manages time adequately, the intended roles like career development lead to optimal career growth and increased earning potentials or an increase in profits in the case of business (Forsyth, 2016). However, the challenge towards the narrative that time is money is that everybody has time, unlike money; therefore, people using time inefficiently will fail in their activities the same way spending little money pointlessly leaves one poor. The controversy, overall, makes time management an essential process, such as capital management, in which benefits are experienced from better management, unlike poor management. Time management is significant in daily lives since it enables people to outline and accomplish their anticipated duties while expecting better outcomes.

Literature Review

Time management is a process of controlling and planning how must time one spends on particular activities, just like money. Good time management makes a person work smarter and not harder to get them to do more in less time, even when time is stretched, and the pressure is high, thus resulting in career or activity success (Bleich, 2018). Typically, the benefits of time management offer improvement in another life sphere, and it is essential to get such a cycle started at the earliest phase. Failure to manage time damages one’s effectiveness, results in stress, poor work quality, missed deadlines, and stalled career. Overall, time management presents challenges and benefits.

Time is money that illustrates that time is limited, and depending on how one slices it; there are 24 hours a day. It applies to a person and the peers who seem to accomplish more or less than the individual does. Therefore, to excel in life based on the regular and monotonous activities, one must acknowledge the importance of finding an adequate way to manage such limited resource.

Proper time management results in more time since extra time are created away from the busy daily schedule (Farrell, 2017). Effective time management leads to enjoying more time on personal pursuits and hobbies since a person accomplishes more activities with fewer efforts. Usually, learning to take control of time leads to an enhanced ability to focus. As a result, the increased focus results in efficiency since momentum are maintained. Also, effective management results in more opportunities in life. With management comes scheduling of tasks, and free time can be adjusted and used towards other activities. For instance, an employee can use the end of the day to run a part-time business instead of waiting for another workday. Equally, time management crates the ability to realize goals. At the beginning of any activity, goals are set, and it is through better time management that such activities are accomplished by remaining committed to the cause.

On the other hand, time management, just like money, would necessitate skills. Organizing the daily activities and completing them on time requires remaining proactive and creative in the tasks. Stronger time-management skills, thus, are essential for the everyday accomplishment of tasks. The organization is a key skill since it helps one maintain a clear picture of what, how, and when to complete activities. Typically, the organization means maintaining a calendar, ability to locate resources for a task easily, and following up on the tasks (Corbett et al., 2017). Equally, prioritization is an important skill since the activities need an order of achievement. Many ways are used in prioritizing tasks such as activities that are more engaging, longer ones, or single items. Also, one can start with most time-sensitive, less sensitive, or both. Equally, planning is an essential skill since it is a fundamental part of the management based on efficiency in activities. Specifically, the outline of roles and how to accomplish them is vital in sticking to the schedule.

On the other hand, poor time management, similar to poor capital management presents challenges. It results in poor workflow and quality since the inability to plan forward as well as sticking to the objectives, implies incompetence. Usually, when one has several vital activities to accomplish, it is only proper if the tasks are completed in the pre-established sequence. Failing to plan and organize leads to jumping back and forth or backtracking in doing activities and reduces efficiency hence lowering productivity (Forsyth, 2016). Also, poor time management leads to missed deadlines due to time-wasting. For instance, a student doing an assignment and engaging in social media conversation wastes time. In such a case, one will lose control since no specific task is prioritized, and there is more distraction. Failing to know what is next contributes to higher anxiety and stress levels. Also, ineffective time management can result in poor status. When tasks are not completed promptly, the perceptions and exceptions are severely affected. Therefore, one cannot continue to rely on themselves due to incapability and lower their traits, such as commitment.

Looking through time management perspectives, it is evident that time management has different effects. Efficient time management enables one to achieve more in a shorter period, eventually resulting in free time, lowering stress, helping in focus, getting more opportunities, and becoming successful. Poor time management leads to poor workflow, time-wasting, and higher stress levels. Therefore, it is essential to learn about organizing individual time more effectively. The same way, poor or better management of money yields different results. It is necessary to have an established time management perspective each day to assist in overall long-term and short-term success.
