The world of technology and innovation has been growing at a very rapid rate. The
time from idea to manufacturing of a product is much faster today than it was ten years
ago. With this in mind innovation leaders should understand the importance of global
trends as well as global cultures. Watching the economy grow on a global scale over 200
years was astonishing nonetheless much of the growth took place starting in the 70’s
(Rosling, 2010). The world is full of great innovators and these innovators who are truly
passionate about their work will bring it to the market one way or another. Many times
more than often we have probably heard about someone who had the same idea however
never acted on it. That moment of hesitation or setback may have cost them millions of
dollars in potential income. Global trends impact every market and global cultures
should always be taken into consideration when manufacturing products. The culture in
Japan may be different from the United States however we still share many of the same
trends. Televisions, mobile devices, computers are all examples of products that are
considered global trends. The iPhone isn’t made different for India than it is for Canada
and the Apple Company profits from this. The company understands the market and the
culture and every year enhance the device more and more in order to remain the leader in
mobile phones.
Elon Musk has used global trends in order to achieve his goal of creating
technology that truly serves the market. From the electric car to designer solar panels he
has and continues to come up with ideas that affect the global market in many ways.
When the market saw a need for something Elon Musk began to think of how to
contribute. At present he has his company bringing electricity back on the island of
Puerto Rico with solar panels his company created. This will not only help Puerto Rico
but will help Elon Musk and his organization understand better what works well and what
can be improved.
