The author of this paper is choosing a degree program at Purdue University Global in Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration. The author is taking classes online and does not have a home campus.
2. What is the national median salary for the specific job you want to pursue?
The job that the author is pursuing is the Medical and Health Services Manager. The national salary for this job is between $58,68 and $182,600. The median salary for this job is $99,730 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2019).
3. What is the demand for jobs in your geographical area (or where you plan to live after graduation)?
According to O*Net Online (2019), the State of North Carolina has 3,490 jobs available. The geographical area where the author is located and planning to stay in North Carolina, possible areas are Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, or Durham. The demand for jobs in these geographic areas is considerable, finding ninety-four job postings. Taking in consideration the different areas selected and within 25 miles radius, in Raleigh, area code 27614 the author found thirty-five job posting; in Chapel Hill, area code 278599, the author found thirty-seven jobs; in Hillsborough, area code 27278, the author found eighteen job postings; finally in Durham, are code 27708, the author found thirty-seven job postings (O*Net Online, 2019).
4. Are there any required professional certifications (besides the degree you will complete at Purdue) you will need to perform certain duties of the job? If so, how do you plan to meet the criteria for applying and obtaining the extra education?
There are several certifications besides the bachelor’s degree the author will complete at Purdue. These certifications are: Certified Revenue Cycle Professional (CRCP), Certified Revenues Cycle Executive (CRCE), Certified Medical Manager (CMM), Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CFHP), Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), and Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) (Health Care MS Degrees, 2020). The plan developed by the author of this assignment to obtain special education is to start saving money to pay the certification’s fees and schedule them once the program is completed.
5. Are there certain program accreditations required from your educational institution to perform certain jobs in your chosen field? Does Purdue have that accreditation?
The bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration does not require any other outside accreditation besides the one Purdue University Global held. In other words, the degree obtained within the university is enough for a job in other states.
6. What is the overall job outlook for your chosen field?
The overall job outlook for a healthcare service manager is promising with an increase of 17% in the next few years (Explore Health Careers, 2020). Due to the many aspects of the job, such as leadership, support, policies, procedures, and finances, the average job openings are higher than in other professions (Explore Health Careers, 2020).
