In popular literature, you may see the terms manager and leader being used interchangeably, as if being a manager and being a leader is the same thing. You now know that being a manager is not the same thing as being a leader. Discuss the following:

· What is the difference between being a manager and being a leader? Why is this distinction important? Do all great leaders make great managers? Do all great managers make great leaders? Why or why not?

· Some people prefer the leadership role while others prefer the management role. Which role do you believe fits you best? Why do you feel that way?

This DB has 2 parts

Traditionally, companies have built up their inventory levels to:

a. Accommodate for uncertainties in demand

b. Take advantage of economies of scale

c. Accommodate for unreliable suppliers

d. Accommodate for quality issues

e. Accommodate for production and scheduling errors.

Yet, JIT and Lean Manufacturing philosophies state that inventory is considered waste and should be eliminated as much as possible.

1. Compare and contrast these inventory methodologies and choose the methodology you feel is the most beneficial and why?

2. Now play devil’s advocate and make a case for using the other inventory methodology.
