· The death rate for African Americans has declined about 25% over 17 years(primarily for ages 65 years and older)

· African Americans ages 18-49 are 2 times as likely to die from heart disease than whites.

· African Americans ages 35-64 years are 50% more likely to have high blood pressure than whites.

· Black men have the lowest life expectancy and the highest death rate from specific causes compared to both men and women of other racial and ethnic groups.

· 44% of Black men are considered overweight
