This short paper will analyze the case study of a manufacturing company named Ultimate Office Product, which was concentrating mainly on the traditional distributing channel and a bit reluctant to adopt and embrace new technologies by then. Richard Kelly, the information system director, failed to implement new technologies in his first attempt in the company but successfully implemented the new technology in his second attempt.
The first principle is that the company is committed to prioritizing customers' value. The company was able to enhance its operation by simplifying its operation, which is also an essential principle. Towards the end of the case study, the company became effective in order processing since the company could make more orders electronically.
The primary reason why Richard failed in his first attempt is that he could not coordinate employees properly. He also lacked direct control over other managers working at different company departments since most of the managers were his peers. As a result, other managers purchased software and equipment and continued with the traditional operation method without being questioned by Kelly. Despite Richard requesting employees to cooperate to ensure the new technology's success, there were still a lot of arguments among the managers, which contributed to the failure of the new technology.
Before an organization establishes a new technology should first incorporate all the stakeholders such as managers, employees, and customers in the planning, developing, and implementation process to ensure collaboration (Munir & Phillips, 2005). Secondly, the information system director should gather all the relevant data concerning new technology through benchmarking from other companies or through a consultant from a technology professional and share widely in the entire organization.
Alternatively, to ensure the success of implementing new technology, organizations can hire a technical firm to plan, develop and implement the new technology on behalf of the company, including training employees on using the technology and maintaining the technology for a period.
