ASSIGNMENT. 7-Day Goal-Setting Challenge Name:

Learning Goals

L1. Identify and describe goal-setting strategies that you can use in your life L2. Explain how and why various goal-setting strategies work, and how they can help you L3. Explain the importance of planning and preparing to accomplish your goals L4. Explain why it is important to have alternate plans when setting goals L5. Identify areas in your life that need planning, and alternate planning, and begin to make plans for success

Description:

In this challenge, you will complete a daily journal recording your daily efforts to set and achieve a goal. Following the 7-day challenge, write a one-page summary of your experiences and hand both your journal and experience summary in.

Along with your own personal goals, you are tasked with LISTENING and NOTETAKING for the podcast titled ‘The Slight Edge’ By Jeff Olsen.

This unit focuses on ways to make effective decisions, researching thoroughly and effectively and achieving success. Therefore, I believe it is key to make use of other people’s knowledge about these topics in order to learn about the kinds of strategies that may be of use to you in achieving success academically and in your own career(s).

Instructions:

1. A) Using what you have learned about goal-setting, choose a goal to accomplish for each of the next 7 days.

B) In order to begin listening to THE SLIGHT EDGE you will need to access the internet. Once you are on the internet, you will need to use SOUNDCLOUD, a free application where you can listen to music and other kinds of auditory materials. Once on SOUNDCLOUD please search for ‘THE SLIGHT EDGE’ by JEFF OLSEN. This podcast has been downloaded by many people, you can choose the first option that appears.

2. A) Record your goals, what you did to reach them and whether or not you were successful in your attempts in a journal on a daily basis.

I. Daily entries should be about a paragraph long, giving detail on what you attempted to accomplish and a reflection on your results.

II. You may (and are encouraged) to use the attached journal pages (see separate attachment) in completing your daily challenge journal.

B) Each day you are expected to listen to a portion of THE SLIGHT EDGE and while you read it is important to take notes of the information you are given. There are many helpful insights provided by this text and maintaining a log of these important ideas and strategies will help you make better decisions and ultimately learn how you can achieve success.

3. Following 7 days of goal-setting and writing in your journal on a daily basis, write a one-page report summarizing your experiences.

Be sure to include:

I. A summary on what goals you attempted to accomplish, highlighting the most meaningful successes or failures.

II. A reflection on how you set goals and how you have used the goal-setting process accomplish what you have set out to do.

III. A reflection on the place and role of goal-setting in your life and how your use/understanding of goal-setting has changed as a result of this challenge (what have you learned).

IV. A summary of the key ideas, strategies, phrases and concepts that you found most appealing from ‘THE SLIGHT EDGE’ and ones you will attempt to use in your day to day life.
