Choosing a Flowchart for your OIP

Chapter 6 of your Operations and Supply Chain Management textbook provides examples of flowcharts created with different software. Based on the flowchart options available to you and the content of the OIP you are building, which type of flowchart has features that suit your OIP? Describe specific features or aspects of your chosen flowchart that match your needs, and compare these features to those found in some of the other options.

Use your Operations and Supply Chain Management text to review the following:

· Read Chapter 16, "Lean Systems," pages 707–740.

· This reading describes the characteristics and strategies of lean systems and explains how these systems can be critical to process improvement.

· This reading provides tools and principles of total quality management for quality and process continuous improvement.

· Review Chapter 6, "Process and Technology," pages 224–253.

· This reading provides the necessary tools and techniques used to identify and describe process opportunities, determine scope, identify underlying issues and corrective measures, and design and implement the appropriate corrective strategies. This chapter shows how you can create a simple flowchart in Excel. More complex flowcharting tools are available from Microsoft Visio, SmartDraw, iGrafx, and others. You may be able to download and use free trial copies of the software for limited periods of time.
