· Lesson 3: Configuring User Access Control Settings
Using your lab results, write a 2- to 3-page analysis that provides an assessment of application control methods found in the labs and the reading. You should identify a minimum of three methods as well as specifying whether the control method relates to a locally installed application or a web-based application. An example would be a business using a web-based application that stores the data it generates on the cloud vendor’s equipment. The cloud vendor can access the data stored on their equipment and may be required to give that data to a third party if presented with a warrant. The mitigation strategy might be to only allow less sensitive data to be stored in the cloud while applications that generate very sensitive data are locally installed.
Unit 3 Assignment: Application Management
Outcomes addressed in this activity:
Unit Outcome:
· Discover cybersecurity problems.
Course Outcome:
IT537-2: Synthesize cybersecurity threats and their potential consequences to assess risk.
Purpose
To block or restrict unauthorized applications from running in ways that put the user's information at risk, application control is necessary. Functions required by application control include validity checks, input controls, and forensic control among a range of other controls. Using appropriate application controls help align applications with CIA principles and prevent malicious applications from executing and thus putting data at risk.
Assignment Instructions
Create an analysis assessing a minimum of three application control methods discovered in your lab results and the reading. Feel free to include more methods in your analysis, but three should be the minimum. Be sure to note whether the control method is specific to a locally installed application or a cloud application. Following your application control analysis, provide 2–3 pages of discussion that includes a description of the application control methods, how each of the methods relates to risk for the organization, and how each method mitigates that risk.
The minimum page count is 2–3 pages (excluding title page, etc.). If you require more pages to thoroughly discuss the identified methods, then include them.
Your paper should use Times New Roman 12-point font, be double spaced, and use correct APA formatting (title page and reference page). Be sure to use proper APA in-text citations that match your reference list.
