TWO RESEARCH PAPERS – HISTORY 114, DR. DYKE
Students have the option of completing two 10-page term papers on instructor-approved
subjectsin this class for a potential grade-level increase.
The ten pages of each paper will consist of:a title page identifying the student, the instructor
and the class (History 114-51551) and date.

7 pages of text (the actual research paper),
one page of footnotes/endnotes (minimum of 10 different sources used), and
one page of bibliography (using any standard bibliographic format), citing at least 10
sources.
Papers must be typed double-spaced, with one-inch margins all around, and 12-point font or
equivalent. The seven pages of text must be a full seven pages. There must be at least 10
Sources and at least one footnote using each source.
The topic can be on any topic covered by the class. The subject has to be primarily on California
history (any period up to the present), and the subject has to be approved by the instructor.
First topic – crime during the California Gold Rush or write about women during the gold rush (whichever has more info for you to write about)
