This is one of the oldest debates known in the psychological history. Either side has weight in such a weigh that it is very hard to make a decision whether the development of an individual is DNA predisposed or it’s the environment that influences his/her growth features. However, I am going to argue for nurture as the major contributor of development of human beings. This theory of nurture holds that as much as development traits contain some genetic aspects, the surroundings of individuals is the true origin of their character and behavior. An example is the application of conditioning that aims at introducing new behaviors in children or to alter a wayward behavior that the child displays. According to Bandura (2015), the environmental factors dominate the development of human beings because he can randomly select an infant from twelve babies and make him any scientific specialist that he wishes. This training can be done to any child without considering hereditary potentiality, race or talent.
Additionally, it is well evidenced that the culture in which one is brought in makes him/her behave the same way the other people are behaving regardless of the genetic factors. Take an example of identical twins that were separated immediately after their birth. In as much as they can bear the same resemblance, their behaviors will be totally different, even the language may be totally different if they were brought up in different lingual homes (Macrina, 2009). This shows that whatever we interact with during our lifetime has a greater impact on what we are than the genetic factors. It is how a child is brought up that governs the psychological aspect the development of a child.
Part two
It should be noted that both sides, nature and nurture bear the same weight when it comes to development of human beings. Therefore, the people involved in such a debate should come in an understanding that the development of human nature does not rely on only one factor but all the two, the DNA and the environment. Both nature and nurture are essential for any character displayed by humans and one cannot say that a particular behavior is environmental and another one is genetic. This is because it is not possible to separate the influences of the two factors and it is also illogical as because they do not operate in separate way.
