Education Two Part Assignment
Project Part 4: Instructional Media
Purpose
This assignment is intended to help you learn to create an instructional media piece for a unit of instruction.
Overview
Now that you have your syllabus created, it’s time to start diving deeper into the specific content and resources you will use to fortify your unit of instruction. In this assignment, you will focus on creating an instructional media piece to make your course more engaging. Instructional multimedia has become something of a standard in the online classroom. It may take many forms, such as dynamic and responsive presentations, videos, screenshare demos, games, in-line video quizzes, and more. There are a number of free and paid resources online that can assist in creating instructional media to enhance your courses.
In this assignment, you will create a multimedia piece for a module-level topic that you included in your syllabus. We are not expecting you to be a graphic designer or professional video editor in this assignment. Rather, we are more interested in how you can leverage your creative instruction to make an engaging and original solution that best aligns to your course and learner’s needs.
Here are some resources to help you consider how multimedia pieces should be designed for the education space. Feel free to use these, or conduct your own scholarly research to find content tailored to your project aims:

·

· Helpful Tools to Create Interactive LessonsLinks to an external site.
Choose one specific module topic from Project Part 3 and the appropriate MLOs for the topic, and develop your instructional media piece to fulfill these objectives. The scope of this assignment is to keep your instructional media within the 3- to 5-minute timeframe. You are free to choose the platform and format of your piece, but you may use the following prompts as a way to guide your ideas:
· A screen-recorded presentation or demo using a tool of your preference. Canvas StudioLinks to an external site. is a good, free option in the Canvas LMS.
· An original YouTube video lesson.
· An interactive video, using a tool like EdPuzzle.Links to an external site.
· A narrated PowerPoint presentation with images, graphics, animations, and voiceover.
Other tools can be used, such as Rise 360, Storyline, Adobe Spark, PlayPosit, Kahoot!, and more. Please check with your instructor if you would like to use a specific tool that is not listed. Whichever you choose, what you generate must be able to be shared and viewed by the instructor and, eventually, your classmates.
Module 2 Practice Homework
Purpose
This assignment is intended to help you learn to do the following:
· Display different types of data using appropriate visualization/display techniques.
· Interpret output of data visualization in given context.
· Evaluate the accuracy of data visualization in given context.
· Reflect on the role of data visualization and representation in data communication and decision making.
Overview
This assignment requires you to apply the knowledge and skills you gained from the content of Module 2. In particular, the assignment is meant to assess your competencies in selecting, creating, and interpreting data graphically in ways that show patterns, support analysis, effective communication, and decision making.
The assignment has three parts, and you are required to address each part. In part 1, you are required to identify and categorize the variables and create visual representation of chosen variables. In part 2, you are required to find a misleading graph (e.g. from news media, scholarly, or social media) that you believe is misleading or incorrectly designed and critique. And in the final part of the assignment, you are required to reflect on your experience working on this assignment by responding to prompts provided.
You will need to download the dataset and the assignment details to complete this assignment (see Action Items). You will submit a 3- to 5-page document, rendered in proper APA format.
Action Items
1. Review the readings for this week and the following video before working on the assignment:
How to Create a Histogram & Frequency Polygon in SPSSLinks to an external site.
2. Download the dataset. Download dataset.
3. Download the assignment details document Download assignment details document and carefully read it. Under the heading, “LET’S SET OUR GOALS…” find the given variables you will be working with in this assignment. The given variables are different for each program of study.
4. Based on the selected program dataset and given variables, address the following:
Part 1
1. Identify and categorize the selected variables, that is, explain if each variable is categorical (nominal or ordinal) or quantitative (discrete or continuous)
2. For each given variable, create the following visualizations using SPSS or any similar software.
· Bar Chart
· Histogram
· Boxplot
· Stem-and-Leaf
3. For each chart, label all axes and legends clearly, and write 2-4 sentences interpreting the chart.
Part 2
1. Critique a misleading data visualization: Find a published graph from either a scholarly article, news media, or social media that you believe is misleading or incorrectly designed.
2. Address the following based on the visualization:
A. Explain specific issues that make you believe the representation is misleading or inaccurate.
B. Suggest at least two improvements and, if possible, recreate the visualization correctly.
C. Discuss ethical implications of poor data visualization in decision-making and/or public perception.
Part 3
· Reflective Journal: For this part, respond to the following in 300-500 words.
A. What principles guide effective data visualization/representation?
B. What challenges did you encounter working on this assignment?
C. How does graphical integrity relate to statistical ethics?
D. How can poor data representation/visualization distort interpretation even if data is accurate?
