Benson PSY 635 Instructor: Dr. Kraft April 1, 2018 Research hypothesis The experimental research topic that I am going to talk about is on patients suffering from anorexia nervosa and how they respond to external information about the information given to them about their body weight. The response was conducted to prove whether their reactions were psychological as a number of the patients on the research who were deceived of having lost weight responded by weight gain. On the other hand, those who were deceived of having gained weight responded by losing weight. During the research, several hypotheses were formulated. They include: 1. Most patients suffering from anorexia nervosa do not give accurate results about their body weight 2. Patients deceived to have gained weight reacted by a loss of weight 3. Patients who were cheated on weight loss responded by a considerable weight gain 4. Patients feel that their body size becomes distorted with increasing weight loss Sampling Techniques Several sampling strategies were applied in the study to ensure that proper analysis of the data is done. For instance, the data obtained from observation of the patients with anorexia nervosa is classified in some 6sampling methods namely, simple random, stratified, cluster systematic and multistage sampling (Larson et al., 2014). Patients with the similar reaction concerning the research procedures were grouped. Samples of patients whose responses differed from one another were also placed in separate samples. This ensures that correct analysis is done after all the required information has been gotten. Research Design 1Data collection and analysis has to be done to provide a proper explanation for the research. 1Various research methodologies were applied to collect and analyze data (Lewis, 2015). Selection of data collection and analysis methods were based on the type of data to be collected. Methods for data collection used include interviews, observation, and use of questionnaires. An interview is 1where an individual is questioned face to face on a specific topic. This technique of data collection is used when precise information is required. It is essential as an interviewer can seek more clarity from the interviewee. The observation was applied to all the patients with anorexia nervosa in the research 1where the researchers watched them and recorded their findings for analysis. 1Questionnaires are structured forms with some simple surveys administered to some respondents to collect their views on a subject matter. It is best used to a large number of respondents. Some members of the research team set out to distribute questionnaires to the patients. The filled and returned the forms to the research team. Statistical Analysis Once the information was collected from the experiments, data analysis and evaluation were done to draw out conclusions. The comparative techniques of data analysis were used to analyze data. The methods were used to explain 2the nature of the psychological disorder in anorexia nervosa. Data was analyzed about the reaction of patients to information about their body size. Moreover, the data analysts evaluated data on the how accurate anorexia patients give their body measures. The 1analyzed data was presented using tools such as tables, bar graphs, comparative charts and pie charts. The team analysts offered the information on patients who participated in the study. 1Once the data was analyzed and summarized, the report was sent to stakeholders. Results After the statistical analysis was conducted on the collected data, findings of the experimental research were outlined. These findings highlight 2the nature of the psychological disorder. It was found that most patients suffering from anorexia nervosa give wrong information about their body. They mostly overestimate their body 2size even if they have become very lean as a result of the disorder. This was demonstrated in 14 anorexia patients who were requested to estimate their body width. The answers given by the patients were higher than their actual widths. Moreover, once the patients were treated, they were then retested, and the results showed that their weights were going back to normal. Another finding of the research is that anorexia patients are entirely reactive to any information they receive about their weight. Six patients were given false information 2about their body weight. If the patients thought they were losing weight, they responded with a loss in weight and vice versa (Lock, 2015). 1Challenges of the Research Despite the successful activities of data collection and experiments by the research team, they encountered some problems. These challenges include the following; ? Language barrier. In most instances, research activities are faced with the challenge of the language barrier. Most methods of data collection involve the use of languages. In situations where some customers do not understand a language, it becomes a challenge for the research process. Methods that can face this problem are interviews and questionnaires. A remedy to this challenge is hiring translators, which is an added expense to the process. ? Uncooperative respondents. During research activities, some respondents do not co- operate when sharing information. For instance, some interviewees stated that they faced this challenge during interviews. Also, during the distribution of questionnaires, some customers refused to collect the forms while other did not return them after filling them. When visiting some research institutions, some institutions refused to assist the researchers in finding appropriate data. To ensure that this challenge is avoided, researchers should visit centers that accommodate them. ? Cost of the Research. The activity required a lot of funds to ensure that our operations are executed fully. The funds were not enough which forced the research organization to borrow money. Conclusion The experimental research activity was a success as all research steps were followed. We can prove that 2the nature of the psychological disorder in anorexia nervosa is somewhat complicated. The research concludes that patients with this condition tend to be abnormally affected by external information about their weight. Patients with higher rates of weight loss tend to have an inaccurate opinion about their body size. References 5Lewis, S. (2015).
